Guys, as you know I'm 22, 1 year on finasteride next May, my beard has an average thickness but not very "high" and dense on the cheeks, is finasteride blocking my beard development or only (maybe) delaying it? Or doesn't it affect it at all?
I also started applying minoxidil on cheeks (only part where my beard's not so thick), could i achieve a square (just on the cheecks) a full beard in 6/7 years even being on finasteride?

**I was thinking about switching from finasteride to Duta but i don't think personally that's a good choice during beard development.. when will it be complete so i can turn on my Duta treatment?

THANK YOU SO MUCH

I don't think you should be on finasteride if you care that much about your beard. Jesus, who cares? Would you rather save your hair and have a thinner beard, or no hair and a thicker beard? I know what my answer is.

These beard questions are so funny - hipsters worrying about their beard growth. "I can't grow a manly hipster beard and look like every other hipster douche!" Beards and undercuts - they're like a hipster uniform.

Hey! people other than hipsters have beards my friend. I have a beard. Mainly because I look good with one people tell me. It's not al long and scraggly though. This is weird - finasteride drastically accelerated my hair loss, and INCREASED my beard and chest hair growth. there has to be something to this... I am starting to think the increase in test really does f*ck you up.

Here is a study which could be helpful to your question:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/7126460

DHT is the most potent androgen. It has a role in growth of facial and body hair. Some men claim their beard grows slower/thinner on finasteride whereas others claim finasteride didn't affect their beard growth. There are people claiming their body hair fell out on finasteride.

I think it will surely have an impact on beard growth and maybe on beard development. I would love to see if there are any other controlled studies regarding this subject.

The study states that linear hair growth was reduced in patients with low plasma DHT levels , which means that the speed of growth of your existing ( beard ) hairs can be slowed down by taking finasteride. ( Correct me if I got this wrong! )

But on the other hand it also says that ( beard ) hair density is only correlated with plasma Testosterone concentration ,
and therefore hair follicle priming is linked to the influence of testosterone.

Finasteride is supposed to increase testosterone levels for a not insignificant amount,
doesn't that mean that by taking finasteride you will increase the number of beard hair follicles but at the same time slow your speed of beard growth?

I'm on Propecia for a month and I been keeping an eye, I honestly can't really tell any change in thickness/growth rate. Hopefully I'm not shedding beard hair without noticing... Time will tell.
Started growing a beard in January for fun, something that I always wanted to give it a shot.
Here's the beard:

Honestly I care way more about the hair on the head though.

I've noticed an increase in my beard and body hair growth since I've been on finasteride. Now it could just be naturally thickening due to age and genetics (I'm 25 now and my dad is very, very hairy), but either way finasteride doesn't seem to be causing it to slow down. I'd have to shave at least twice a day if I wanted to be clean shaven (I don't, I always keep a 5 O'clock shadow), which is different from when I started growing a beard about 3 years ago, and I used to just have chest hair in the center and bit around the nipples last year, now my entire chest has hair, and I'm noticing quite a bit of hairs cropping up on my back/shoulders, which is alarming and a pain in the *** to remove.

I think taking finasteride before you ever got a beard might do something, and taking it could have some effect at any time. Beard hair growth though is controlled by not just DHT, but also the huge amount of T every man has tons of. Taking finasteride could easily slow down the growth some or even prevent it from happening, but much like hair loss probably wont reverse it. Funny enough T also probably causes male pattern baldness to continue in a lot of men. I dont think you can block DHT and just ignore T when fighting hair loss.

beard definitely grows in less dark although it has gradually gotten thicker since 2 years ago as my beard continues to develop and fill in previously uncharted areas. However it grows in lighter and blonder. Darkest it ever went was during a steroid cycle, was pretty cool to see.

Furthermore, my leg and arm hair has drastically lightened up. I used to actually be pretty dam hairy on the legs, and although all the hair is still there it is way thinner and less dark.
