Hi guys
I always visit this forum but this is the first time I post here
I started using the regimen (Rogaine, Nizoral 2% and Saw Palmetto) seven years ago.
It works great at first, my hair growing thicker dramatically.
But later on it gains less and less effective, my front hairline going up and the crown is getting thinner.
So I start taking finasteride tablet last year after long consideration
It does give me some hope on hair regrowth but later I force to stop as the sexual side effect (I don't sure is it just my perception).
Then my friend gave me some cream and told me it was made with finasteride by him.
I read through the internet and find some but not much articles about the effectiveness of finasteride for external use.
Do anything guys here have any experience or idea on finasteride apply on the scalp directly?

There are no advantages to applying finasteride topically rather than taking it orally. It is a big hassle to apply it topically, and it will go systemic and thus will have just as much chance of side-effects as taking the drug orally. Also, it is unsafe to be walking around with finasteride cream on your head if there are any pregnant women around you.

It is a shame that people so definitively say that topical finasteride has no benefit over oral. I would't be surprised if it becomes the standard years from now--and many of us now were discouraged from experimenting with it. I am very familiar with the all the past studies--so please spare me that. We just don't know. But the newest research is showing a real benefit, and if nothing else, fewer side effects.

compare the therapeuttic effects of finasteride gel and tablet in treatment of the androgenetic alopecia
Hajheydari Z1, Akbari J, Saeedi M, Shokoohi L.

This article tells that apply finasteride topically can avoid the sexual side effect but is less effective as if taking it orally
Yup, it has some difficulties in using it ....

enough goes systemic to have the same effect as oral. Like Rudolph says, its also a hassle to apply. It may be more effective, but by an absolutely insignificant/miniscule amount. No way it will ever become the standard over oral
