finasteride, hair diameter at root with ejection??

I have been on finasteride for the past 2 months, and have noticed shedding for the entire time being on finasteride. What I notice when examining the ejected hair is that it is much thinner at the root end than the mid/tip end. Is this normal to occur with finasteride and shedding hairs? I assumed that finasteride increased the diameter of the shaft... Does this only happen once the hair is ejected and the new hair follicle is replaced?

you almost stole my question...i am observing the same for the last 2 weeks...i started on finasteride a month and half back...and great hair loss reduction the first 2 weeks...and suddenly started shedding everywhere abruptly...pillow, tub, comb etc..have no clue wats going on...but i would like to believe its finasteride shed (the good kind..) and will stop someday...i have decided i am going to stay put for at least 6 months...hope the shed does not continue and i dont go totally bald till then... ( i hav diffused thinnin)....God bless my poor exposed scalp areas :freaked: ...

o yes...i noticed the increased thickness too (no tapering though...overall increased diameter)...thats wat assures me even more that finasteride is working and it totally makes sense considering the logic behing the treatment-caused shedding...

Well I guess this could be Reflex hyperandrogenicity from what I have been reading. Hair at midscalp is nice and strong but up front and hairline has gotten so thin and wispy since the start of finasteride (Individual hairs). It wasnt anywhere close to this bad before starting 2 and a half months ago. I guess I only have 2 choices....just keep going for the full year and see what happens, or possibly try some topical antiandrogens and hope the hair thickens up again. Im definitely very scared to drop the finasteride cause if it gets even worse Im gonna be even more depressed, if thats even possible. Any comments or insight guys?

......How can they not have a receptor site blocker yet for hair like beta blockers?????
