finasteride - HOW LONG BEFORE IT SHOULD WORK? (6 months in - no progress)

Hi Everyone,

I have been posting on and off here for a while and watching other guy's progress whilst on finasteride.

So I have been on the drug for roughly 6 months, combined with 5% minoxidil liquid and Nizoral once every two days.

I tapered the dosage upon starting finasteride (22 June 14) at .25 for about 2 weeks, then .33 for a further two, .50, 1mg, then eventually up to 1.25.

I can see some very fine hairs under bright light and what appears to be a few new ones but HOW can you tell if these are new hairs, or miniaturised ones? Do I give up finasteride as it does not appear to be working? My hairline is steadily getting worse and its quite alarming under bright light :(

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I did something similar to you. I have been on .5 or half a tablet since july 10, 2014. I just started taking 1 mg daily on sunday. i started almost a year ago at .25 every third day then went to every other day and then to .25 daily in may.

still no new hair... actually worse.. i do see small hairs but i can't tell if they are miniaturized ones or new ones.

Its so frustrating because I've added all sorts of things to my regimen, whilst telling myself to push through and remain optimistic when you see absolutely sweet fu*k all happening! I'm now on 1.25 mg which is about as high a dose as I'm prepared to go.

I genuinely cannot see what else i should be adding!

I guess we wait a few more months. Not much we can do. If nothing soon I'm going to try lipogaine

Are you sure you haven't grown hairs lower down your hairline, giving the illusion of hair thinning?

Unfortunately not....I take a lot of pictures and can see my hairline moving in slowly. When I inspect it under bright light the density has certainly thinned...its quite alarming. Ive started using Keratin Conditioner which has helped a lot to hide things and thicken the existing hair....but its basically sweeping the underlying issue under the rug.

Could this be because peoples hair generally tends to get worse on finasteride before it gets better? :s

Give it a full year minimum. I saw noticeable results after the 2 year mark. It does work, you just have to be patient and consistent.
