Finasteride Only Or Should I Add Minoxidil For This Hair Line?

Age: 24
Type: Male pattern baldness
Current regimen: Generic finasteride 1mg/day

I started receding slowly at the hair line as soon as 18. I tried Propecia for about 6 months when I was 19-20, but put it off due to potential sides and the hair loss not being to aggresive at the time. In retrospect the Finasteride could have added to the slower progression, but I'm not sure.

The hair loss has progessed to a stage where my frontal hair looks very frail. My hair is very thin to begin with. I have now been on Finasteride again for a month, and have been wondering if I should wait it out to see the results of Finasteride alone or add Minoxidil ASAP to save as much as possible?

I have read that Minoxidil tends to work better with younger men? I am hoping to thicken the hair at the front a bit as there is still quite a bit of thin not highly visible hair left.

Photos: I am thinning between the top middle and frontal area for the last 6-7 years. Temple on your left (my right) is progressing much quicker and hair is so thin that its not really visible any more.

If you want regrowth you should be using minoxidil, especially if the loss has been going on for several years. Those follicles are weakened and in need of stimulation

Finasteride is for maintenance, and stopping further damage

I have read that Finasteride could also aid regrowth, and am just wary of starting Minoxidil for life without first seeing if Finasteride can do the trick alone, or is this unlikely?

I'll probably look into 5% Minoxidil. Is it okay to only add it once per day? My hair is thin and looks really bad if I add anything to it, so don't think mornings will be an option.

You technically can get regrowth with just finasteride, but it will likely be limited, and slow, especially if you've been losing hair for several years now

minoxidil has a 22 hour half life, so yes you can use it 1x a day and still get decent results

Yes, Minoxidil 1x per day is generally regarded to be nearly as effective as 2x per day. You should do fine that way..

Do you guys think with thin hair I would experience a lot of initial shedding?

Are there any other products worth adding to the combo? I've read Nizoral shampoo is often used as a third product.

According to facts about Minoxidil, an initial shed is a sign that the medication is working. Therefore, experiencing shedding is a good sign. I honestly think you would experience alot of shedding for 2-3 weeks, but be above baseline after.

I would opt for Nizoral aswell if I were you, a study shows that it is as effective as 2% Minoxidil. Stops inflammation, redness and itching as well o that's pretty nice.

Yeah I've seen some guys growing back significantly with Finasteride, but also think that Minoxidil might be the way to go if I want to have worthy chances of doing so myself.

I have also read up about stuff like Saw Palmetto, copper peptides, and so forth working. But it could start getting expensive and complicated with a bunch of products that have inconclusive results.

Do you think with Minoxidil I could grow back some of the hairline?

Thanks for all the inputs.

Does Minoxidil work on temples?

Yes, it does. Technically it works anywhere under which there are underlying hair follicles

If the hair is long gone though it may be difficult. Things like dermarolling can help in these situations

I have a full head of thick hair but my temples receded. My left temple i would say is NW2 and right one Norwood 2.5. I'm thinking if i should give a try to minoxidil. Right now i'm just using dermaroller with oil.
