finasteride/Propecia As A Temporary "Booster"

Hi there - I'd like to ask our resident experts a bit of an unusual question...

First a bit about me - I'm NW2, but luckily I've been able to maintain on minoxidil alone for the past ten years. I've tried Propecia approx a decade ago but decided to give up after about 18 months due to testicular pain - looking back on this I'm not sure how much of this was in my head or not...

So - my question is - what are your thoughts about using finasteride/Propecia as a temporary (9 months or so) booster used alongside minoxidil - then discontinuing the finasteride and maintaining on minoxidil alone? Would my minoxidil maintenance be able to support any benefits from finasteride - or would they disappear as I go back to a minoxidil-baseline?

My reason for the "temporary" nature of my question is concerns about recurring sides - psychosomatic or not!

No, I'm pretty sure you won't be able to maintain the results. I went back to baseline fast after stopping finasteride (still using minoxidil).

Have you thought about using a topical anti androgen? I'm currently using a low dose of RU58841, 30mg per day. In combination with topical finasterade 1mg. And having similar results to oral finasterade. Without any sides, yet. (I've only recently added the topical finasteride).

This is off topic, but do you mind telling us how do you make your topical finasteride or where did you get it? :) THX

You maintained on NW2 with minoxidil alone for ten years? That's just incredible you lucky bastard!!!

And I don't think temporary usage of finasteride would work. Nor is it worth the risk. Even 9 months is quite a long time and is enough to completely change your endocrine system. Since you've maintained for so long maybe you should just try a minor hair transplant to get your hairline fixed. What you have now is what most of us dream of: stable, long term maintenance allowing you to finally turn the table with a hair transplant.

And have you given any thought to the possibility that you were just developing a mature hairline? I know it sounds ridiculous but some people do have a Norwood 2 mature hairline...

I'm using Polaris research nr-10 16% minoxidil with finasterade. I get it on biovea.com

Guys - thank you all for some great replies. It relaly did give me food for thought.

I've realised that I'm actually VERY lucky to be maintaining NW2 on minoxidil alone - I should count my blessings and not start something that gave me a pretty bad reaction in the past - psychosomatic or not.

Thanks for bringing me to my senses!
