i have been using propecia (proscar) for 6 months along with rogaine daily.

lately i been losing insane amounts of hair. i sit and shake it out onto my chest tons of it. then ill shower and wash tons out. then i come back to my room and wash more out.

i am freaking out. i thought this was supposed to help my hairloss. now im mortified when i go out and wonder who is looking at my hairloss.

anyone help?

the rogaine made it look better a few months back but suddenly i cant keep a hair on my damn head. any suggestions? i dont want to go bald and im petrified that i just basically accelerated the process.

i am thinning so bad since taking this stuff. i can shake hair out of my head at like 50 hairs a time easily. then an hour later keep shaking more out.

HELP!!!!!!!

my sex drive never decreased just my damn hair

pmzito,

you will have to read the thread "AWESOME!!!" to catch up with the spirit of the fellow posters above. :hairy:

I would say, stick with your regimen- these shedding periods are frequently mentioned and you must ride them out. It usually means you are a responder and that hair is coming in thicker and healthier.

shedding is...when you jump from 40 hairs a day to 100 plus hair a day upon starting fun like in my case...*sniff :(

i dont get it...they say its good to shed hair, and that its an indication new hair will grow...then others say its a t.e induced by the finasteride, while your body adjusts to the new decreased DHT level.

i think its the latter, cause my symptoms are totally t.e like. i can pull hair from the back of my head and sides right now. so far as i keep running my hand through the back i'll keep ending up with 2 - 3 hair minimum. but the weirdest thing is some of the hair from the BACK of my head are miniturized, they're thin and colorless which is weird. you dont miniturize with t.e right?..minizturization would just indicate that the hair is growing back thinner?..

the back of the head and sides are supposed to be in the safe zone, whys hair thinner there as well?..

Like Nelly Furtado's Booty?

I would like to reiterate what Cassin said. Read READ READ! (his link)

Regarding the assface derm - you're right, he's wrong..

Shedding on Propecia is normal during the first four months. Ride it out, or reduce dosage / quit at your own risk.

What you need to do is read more of the FAQs on this site. I can't say this too many times... shed, shed, shed. That's what you're going through:( The more stuff that you add to your regimen the more that you're going to shed. Why add so many treatments in so little time? My cue would be to back off of allot of the stuff and maybe just stick with the Propecia for a while and see what happens. My take, it's overkill:(

I think I have the same problem as yours. I also start shedding in my sixth month. My shedding lasts two months, and it continues. I have no idea about whether or not I should continue takeing it. Does anyone give some advice?
Thanks.

Also remember that you can shed chest hair as well. So combine the two and it looks worse than it actually is.

Sorry! What do you want to express? Go straight with finasteride or make some change with others.
Thanks.

The thing is you've probably been shedding like this for years, but ONLY in the last 6 months have you bothered to analyse it... seriously, your mind is probably stressing you out and you shedding has not changed for years.

Put it this way, if you stop, you'll probably go bald and always think to yourself... f*** i wish i NEVER stopped Propecia... Ive been on it for 4 years by the way.

hair going into anagen at the same time on finasteride sheds at the same time too. although i dont agree with the theories on shedding. cause i dont get why it would take six months before the hair goes into anagen. the jolt the follicles are supposed to recieve from reduced DHT should've been in the first two months or so no? they say finasteride reduces DHT with the very first dose..plus...many people on finasteride shed hair from their eyebrows and chest as well. this hair isnt DHT resistant now is it? it just seems like a T.E while your body adjusts to the new DHT levels.

then again..i guess its a t.e if you get it right away. IMHO i believe the more your follicles are damaged from DHT..the longer it takes for the shed from finasteride and vice versa, so maybe it is completely normal for you to shed at the sixth month mark.

people shed on the second , third, fourth month. its all relative IMO. as long as it takes for *their* follicles to recieve the jolt.

i got a massive shed within 10 days of finasteride.

relax and ride it out.

I had some bad shedding on finasteride+ min after a month or so and it is just now calming down. I was loosing all types of hairs, fat long ones, fat tapered ones, thin long ones w or w/o a taperd end and tiny sh*t hairs. I never counted them so I can'g give any numbers but I think it has relaxed quite a bit. At least I don't get the 10+ hairs in my hands each time I run them through my hair while shampooing and my white tile floors are looking less hairy.

I am hoping that finasteride is finally starting to work for me and relaxing my male pattern baldness shedding. In your case you could still be male pattern baldness shedding and finasteride hasn't slowed it yet, or you triggered a sort of Telogen Effluvium when you started finasteride and that Telogen Effluvium period was spread out for at least 3 months. Either way you are only 6 months in so you have no way of knowing if this shed is a bad thing or not. The odds are in your favor so you should just sit back and try to enjoy the ride.
