Hi guys ! I am 23 years old male experiencing hairloss for about 5-6 years. I ve been taking minoxidil 5 % for 2 years and i stopped taking it 3 months ago. It helped me quite well, but then, it stopped working, my hair started to fall more and more and it was messy so i decided to block DHT with finasteride (i used saw palmetto extract too, but it was worthless) Currently i am on 0.6 mg daily without minoxidil. I am taking 30 mg of zinc daily too and i am trying to eat healthy and well. I am taking finasteride for 13 weeks and i have no sides for now:punk: hope this will stay with me ! Now I am shedding 0.5 mm short hair that is looking thin and it started to fall approx. 2 weeks ago. I' ve shaved my head when i started my regimen so i could see if it is working. Now i can see quite a lot of this little, colorless thin hair on my head. My other hair that has approx 2.5 cm is quite stable and isnt falling off. Is this shedding a sign of shedding phase and a that finasteride is working for me? I loose 30-50 of this thin hair daily.

Thanks for your replies and have a great day !

Same here dude.I had a hell of a shedding in august accompanied by flaky itchy scalp.Jumped onto finasteride without a second thought. I shaved off my head when I started my regime and now I have grown my hairs to a 2 cm length. Although that horrible shedding has stopped I lose 0.5 mm short hairs like 20 during shower and 5 to 10 during combing.

Just sounds like a normal finasteride shed. To be expected at this point in your treatment. It may last weeks, it may last months, but eventually it should stabilise and then your hairloss will stop/slow and possibly even get some regrowth/thickening.

I'm experiencing the same thing.

New to this forum, but kind of facing the same issue as yours. Used minoxidil for 5 years, had great results for 3 of years and later kind of stopped responding to it. Have been taking finasteride for 6 months, along with applying 5% minoxidil twice daily and using keto shampoo as well twice a week. There has not been a drastic improvement in hair quality. Rather the crown has thinned a lot. Although I understand you need to give some time for finasteride to work. However from the past month, I'm observing the that the shed hair are either really short or thin. The longer ones are not shedding at all. Just want to know if this is a normal phenomenon.

Did you notice any loss of density since coming of minoxidil ? i was on minoxidil for 10 months and stopped due to itchy scalp and seb derm. im cured from this now but i can really tell i lost alot of ground and i have only been off of minoxidil for a month and two weeks

I lost a lot of density after I came off minoxidil, around the same time as you, but not only in the areas I applied it, my entire scalp lost density. Perhaps I was using so much that it was somehow benefiting my entire scalp and all of the hairs became dependant. Look out for that in the future.

Did you hair ever rebound for the post minoxidil shed ? I areas that were thinning have gotten worse since quitting really didn't begin until a month after quitting , should I expect things to continue to worsen for a couple more months ?
