Finasteride Side Effects (fat Gain)

Hi all,

I'm 23 years old and I went on finasteride 6 weeks ago. I have very little hair loss and went on it out of panic, as I value my hair greatly.
I took it for 3 weeks and almost immediately my penis felt somewhat lifeless. I could still get erections but it was harder to do so and I would never get morning or spontaneous erections when I would have before taking it. I continued taking it because I read that the side effects are likely to go away soon with continued use.
Then about 2 and a half weeks in I woke up with an erection and my penis was back to normal if not stronger. This happiness was short lived however as literally a day later I noticed I had gained fat around my hips (love handles) and my chest. I was also extremely bloated. I track my calories everyday and lift weights regularly so I knew it was the finasteride. I felt so fat and like sh*t. A day later I went off finasteride and prayed my body would go back to normal. I have been off it for 3 weeks and sometimes it feels as though my body has improved in reality I don't think it has.
My question is will my body go back to its pre finasteride state? I knew about very small risks of erectile dysfunction issues with this drug but I wasn't aware it could seriously mess up my aesthetics. Used to be very satisfied with my body and now I hate it with the love handles and fat chest.
Any advice or comments are welcome and appreciated thanks

It's plausibly like this.

Finasteride reduces DHT, but that means more T. On average, you get 15% more T and 15% more estrogen, but it probably varies significantly from person to person, you might get substantially more estrogen than just a 15% increase.

Given that, and the fact that other people have reported this before, it is sensible to lower BF% when going on finasteride.

Fat cells, I think abdominal fat cells in particular, produce the enzyme aromatase which converts testosterone into estrogen. If you lower aromatase, you may lower your estrogen.

"sometimes it feels as though my body has improved in reality I don't think it has."

This in particular is the key though. You clearly don't know what the f*** you're talking about and effectively admit it here.

I'm not rejecting the idea that you can gain more flab and body fat on finasteride, but the idea that you noticed it within 2 weeks is blatantly false. Saying it's still a problem 3 weeks later (but you're not quite sure) makes it obvious the problem is in your head.

If you're noticing this only after 3 weeks then you're just looking for sh*t. Fat redistribution after 3-4 months is a plausible scenario... after 3 weeks I highly doubt that

So it's highly unlikely to be gyno after 3 weeks too? As I have gained fat in my chest.

Gyno is another story, gyno can develop within a week or 2 of being on the drug

Well I've gained fat in my hips and my chest which leads me to believe it probably isn't gyno. As gyno is isolated to the chest area.
Look it may not be fat gain but at the very least it is water retention or I'm just constantly bloated. My waist has definitely expanded. I've always had a muscular chest but my lower chest is sticking out more now. What's weird is that my weight hasn't increased but it's definitely not just in my head I can tell I'm fatter/bloated in clothes in a way I didn't feel before.
I'm going to drop some pounds and see if that gets rid of the problem for good

When I see I feel as though it had improved I didn't mean it reverted back to its pre finasteride state just that I felt less fat. I think this was just because I would feel less bloated in the mornings but my body hasn't felt or looked as good as it did before the onset of the symptoms. I am meticulous about tracking my bodybuilding progress and diet so I know something has changed for sure. Thanks for your response

Track it with photos. What you’re saying is likely impossible but worthwhile checking properly.
