Finasteride Stops Working After 5 Years?

Ok, so her's another one of those Finasteride grey areas; How long does it work for male pattern baldness?
I was under the impression there were reports that finasteride was still effective for the people who had been taking it for 15 - 20 years and that it could even work indefinitely as long as you keep taking it. But then I found this article above that says it begins to lose it's effectiveness after 5 years and stops working completely at 10 years then you start to lose your hair again.
What do people think of this? Has anyone here been taking it for a long time and have they noticed it's effectiveness getting weaker over time?

This claim is unsubstantiated and the various studies point to the oposite conclusion being true, that finasteride works indefinitely.

It makes you think though, how can a "trustworthy" website like the one in the link give advice that is so wrong?

Much like real life lots of people think they know a lot more then they actually do and start to say all kinds of random things they think are true. Propecia could work for you for 0 years, 5 years, or 20 years. No one can say because everyone is different, and truthfully medicine is nowhere near a point of accounting for individual genetic differences in drug responses. So no one knows, but it certainly doesnt stop working after 5 years in all people
All you can do is try the stuff and see where it takes you.

That's what happened to me.

Using a potent anti androgen in long term causes androgen receptor upregulation, especially for those who get sides (indicating you're body thinks it needs more androgen signaling).

What's worse is quitting finasteride at this point usually causes accelerated male pattern baldness due to already upregulated androgen receptors.

Firstly I wasn't aware this was a question posted "countless times before". If this is a common query it's not because it's a "stupid question" it's because it's a grey area and a very valid question given the cost of the drug, how much some guys depend on it and the current lack of alternative treatments. Secondly I did google it and the information you get is inconclusive, misleading even. As you said maybe it's different for different bodies but google it and you get different answers and conflicting information - some of these sites make it sound like fact that it lasts only for a few years others will tell you it will last indefinitely ect (including a couple that I alluded to in the OP that state that it starts to lose it's effectiveness after 5 years). This is another reason I posted this thread because I was seeing information on apparently trustworthy sites that I needed to question and wanted other peoples opinions on.
Aside from all that I just think your attitude is wrong. This is supposed to be a forum where like minded hair loss sufferers offer empathetic support and advice to each other. Whereas all you're doing is giving condescending advice and being rude for no real reason. If you've got nothing helpful, nice or intelligent to say don't say anything pal!

I've been using finasteride since 2010. I have been using minoxidil less than normal the past year and a half though. I thought maybe finasteride was the problem but in retrospect I think it is the less regular minoxidil use.

Its not a stupid question its just that no one really knows the answer. A lot of men commonly claim finasteride starts to lose effectiveness around 5 years but its far from some scientific certainty.

May or may not be true. This is not proven to happen in all men although I will give you its probably possible in some cases. Like many things in male pattern baldness we dont have many answers here.

I used the big three with enormous success for almost 10 years. I even used anabolics numerous times with no hairloss at all. I ha very thick hair. However since a couple years now I have been thinning out a lot and ironically with no use of anabolics at all. So when I had 5-10X the hormones the average person I had no hair loss but recently with no exogenous hormones Im losing a lot. All this to say is it the body no longer tolerating finasteride or just genetics? Im not sure. My father and mother both suffer from hair loss albeit not an aggressive form. My dad still had some hair into his 40s. But you raise a good question, I never thought about not responding to finasteride and maybe should consider dutasteride.
