Finasteride users

I was wondering if someone might have some insight into this issue. It would really helpful as I am becoming more and more desperate. I went too see my doctor and he prescribed me 2.5 mg finasteride (half the generic 5mg finasteride tablet) and i have been taking this for 6 months. And it seems to me that my hair loss is getting worse. I then read that you are only supposed to take a quarter of the tablet. Is more finasteride actually counter productive and could it make hair loss worse?
The reason I asked this question was that while researching finasteride I found out that it actually might increase the number of androgen receptors and so increase hair loss, or cause "hyperandrogenicity"? Is this all areal?

no real reason to take more than 1.5mg per day max. Your Doctor was not well informed

don't know if taking a higher dose would actually be detrimental though - probably not

There really is little point in increasing your dose of finasteride, after 1mg the extra dosage has very little effect on increasing the amount of DHT. There was a nice little graph showing this somewhere, but I can't find it, but it showed that if you took 5mg of finasteride as opposed to 1mg the extra increase in percentage from blocking DHt was a low figure like 2/3 % increase, which just isn't worth it.

lukas, it seems that finasteride can cause Telogen Effluvium in some people. are you shedding abnormally from the sides and back of your head when you wash? that could be a good indicator of what's going on with you. i'm no expert man, but i'd say most of the time to go with your gut. if you can wade through the anxiety and still sincerely feel like it isn't helping, then it's probably not.

idk man have you ever tried using just minoxidil? this may be the road i go down for a while, instead of finasteride. let me know what you decide to do.

btw, have you ever noticed how if your hair loss doesn't get much worse on finasteride, then it gets all of the credit, and if you go from a norwood 1 to a 2.5 in 6 months on finasteride then it's pinned on "aggressive male pattern baldness". funny how that works, huh?

everyone says to use markers of 6 months, 1 year, and 2 years to determine if the drug is beneficial to you. idk what to tell you man.
