Hi everyone. I'm new to this forum, and new not only to taking Propecia but also to getting a prescription filled out (knock on wood). I have, what I feel, might be a silly question.

My Doctor and I agreed that I would take Propecia for 1 year then we would evaluate the results and see if it was worth taking forever. So he filled out his card and gave me 11 refills. At time that made sense. 12 months, 12 refills.

The only thing is, my prescription only comes with 28 pills. 12 x 28 = 336. That means I would need a 12th refill to get to 364 pills, still not 1 year, but close enough.

Is this how it works normally? am I only supposed to take 28 pills a month? or should I ask my doctor to add another refill.

It is a 4 weeks supply (7 days a week x 4 = 28) and you are supposed to take it every day. I wouldn't worry too much about taking the exact 365 pills to get to the 1 year makr to see if it is worth taking forever or not. Just take it every day and don't forget to take pictures of your prorgess every month to compare. Some lucky folks here get positive resutls within 6 months and for some it takes longer. Also don't get discouraged when you don't see any regrowth. Propecia is for maintenance, not for regrowth! Good luck!

Thanks. I guess that makes sense. By then I should know if its doing anything and my doctor can just prescribe it again.
My hopes are, how to put it. I want to wish for the best, but expect realistic results. Im still looking around the forums but when I find the right places I will post pictures.

Please please please tell me that your RX is either for generic Propecia, or (hopefully) for generic Proscar.

Generic Proscar (5mg finasteride) is what I take. I quarter the pills with a pill cutter and take 1/4 a day. It costs me $9 for 30 pills, which means about $30 for a YEAR.

It is generic Propecia. It costs me a disgusting 72$ a refill. I've looked into getting it cheaper, but I have no idea where to even begin. I really cant do Proscar, because i'm too young to get it to be covered by insurance, and ive readits hard to control the dosage even if you quarter them and the side effects can be more severe.

.25mg extra of finasteride isn't really going to make any difference as far as side effects go.

I think you can still get Proscar covered by insurance. I got an RX for it, and it says right on it that it's "for hairloss".
