Some liver side effects for ORAL FLUTAMIDE (HIGH DOSE of 250 mg a day) are listed below. However for people using Flutagel at 1% we are only getting a much smaller amount, side effects are unlikely unless you have perhaps some serious health issues (liver etc..) to start with.
I could not find any reports of serious side effects from people using the 1.5% Flutamide GENHAIR liquid, which has been out a few years now.
I have been using that Flutagel for 2.5 months and libido was a bit down since 2-3 weeks but things are improving lately. Granted, I am not so young anymore (41) and also taking oral dutasteride (0.5mg a day) so there is a synergy effect on hair & libido loss.
Libido issues are usually improving over time.
I will stick with that flutagel, it has really thicken my hairline so much and I am even getting new hair at the temples now.
I just started Fluridil today as well (see below photo of my wares). Those androgene receptors are in for a surprise...

from http://www.drugs.com/cons/eulexin.html :

Nonsteroidal antiandrogens rarely cause liver problems during treatment. The most important signs of this side effect are pain or tenderness in the upper right side of the abdomen (stomach) and yellow eyes or skin. Check with your doctor immediately if either of these occurs. Also, check with your doctor as soon as possible if itching occurs or your urine appears unusually dark. Other possible symptoms, such as loss of appetite, nausea or vomiting, and “flu-likeâ€￾ symptoms (headache, muscle or joint pain, or tiredness), can occur during treatment even if you are not having any liver problems. These symptoms usually do not need medical attention. However, if two or more of them occur at the same time, and they last for more than a few days, check with your doctor even if you do not have any of the other symptoms mentioned earlier.

Not that Ive read this entire post, but why do you use Flutagel that is known to get absorbed in the bloodstream and not Fluridil that is formulated to get around this problem?

Read the post. Flutagel, for most users, does NOT get absorbed in the bloodstream. Also, Fluridil is EXTREMELY expensive, has been our for years, and has not had any positive results for most who take it. I tried to use it but it was way too watery. Also, it was a waste using one entire ampule on just my temples when I only needed maybe 1/3 of an ampule. So I was wasting 66% of everything I purchased, not a good deal. Maybe if they offered it in smaller ampules I'd try it, but they don't, so it's a waste of money for me personally.

Fluridil is about 38 Euro per month including shipping. I would not call that extremely expensive if the treatement works. My hair is surely worth an extra 38 Euro a month these days.
Flutagel is 31 Euro per bottle, but the bottle can last less than a month since the gel is so thick to apply. I used almost 2 bottles per month.

I found Fluridil very easy and fast to apply overall, especially if you have longer hair. I personally found the ampule amount to be adequate.

Flutagel, as posted before, is harder and more time consuming to apply, needs to be refrigerated and leaves residues.
With Fluridil on, I can go out to work, it leaves no residues.
Fluridil shipping was fast and the product is very professional.
Both drugs are based on solid medical experiments and different, known modes of actions, and are overall highly rated.

The main issue I have with flutagel are the libido side effects, which I have some now.

Fluridil has none. Fluridil has been out for a few years and no serious side effects have been reported.
Oral Flutamide is a drug also prescribed to adolescents with compulsive masturbation.
I will still use Flut, but decrease to EOD and use just a little at the hairline, and switch to dutasteride Topical with Aloe-Vera.

Hair is great on Flutagel, very happy with results so far.

Flutagel works EXTREMELy well. My beard i SOOO reduced (thickness and regrowth rate). Anyway my libido is still low but I ve been waking up with morning woody these past three days so it's all good. What I had was Stonach flue. I am well now. It only lasted for 2 days and my appetite is back and everything is cool. I have to agree with the posted that said fluridil is expensiv. It is. But is also so easu to use and leave no visible reside afterall, nothing. About effectivness of fluridil. HMM I think is very effective at stopping shedding. I regret not trying it out on my beard but it's kind of har putting watery alcohol solution on your beard.
Anyway All is well. The only think I hate is that they changed thicness of this stuff but hey it still works even though it stays on skin for 5 minutes. I am satisfied camper.

Flutagel, for most users, does NOT get absorbed in the bloodstream.

If think you meant that some users don't notice that it get into the bloodstream?

Have you tried to get the liquid into a container that you could close? maybe with a syringe?

I have been off Flutagel for 2 days and my libido is back now.
Woke up today with a hard and long lasting morning wood !
So it seems that a small amount of Flutamide gets into the blood but since it is such a powerful anti-androgen it is sufficient to give sides.

The good news is that Flutamide has such short life that sides dissapear fairly quickly, therefore It should be easy to fine-tune the best amount & frequency of application.
Flutagel is great for thickeining hair at the hairline, but it seems that I went too far and used too much of it and too often, hence the sides.

I am also on oral dutasteride so perhaps someone on Flut alone will not notice anything.

Ok now this is scary... I've just ordered my first batch of Flutagel but am now extremely apprehensive about trying it!!

Has anyone else had these supposed liver-related side effects?

Any reasons for not trying finasteride ? this is a proven treatment with very mild (if any) side effects. Especially if you are in the early pre-balding stage.
I was on finasteride for 6 years and it worked really great, but it was not strong enough to prevent further thinning eventually after 6 years. This is when I had to no choice but to "upgrade" to stronger drugs like dutasteride and now Flut.
Flut is a very powerful anti-androgen and very effective for advanced hairloss but also more likely to give side effects, especially libido-wise.

However it is hard to imagine that it will destroy your liver just after 5 days of topical application if you are healthy, the total amount taken does not even equal one single tablet of 250mg of Flutamide.
People have been taking the oral 250mg for months and liver side effects are described as very rare.
I have been using the 1% Gel for 2.5 months and I drink at least 2 glasses of wine a day (on AVG) and my liver is fine.

Good luck

El Duterino is right. You should be able to eat the amount of flutamide you apply topically without any significant side effects. Think about it........1ml of Flutagel contains 10mg of Flutamide. 1ml is an awful lot, enough to cover both temples and your crown. If you used it twice a day for 5 days that's a total of 100mg of Flutamide over 5 days, which is about 1/7th of the typical daily dose of Flutamide. This is assuming every single ml you apply topically gets 100% absorbed into your blood stream, which is nonsense. You'd be lucky to have even 10% systemic absorption with this gel, which would leave you right around 10mg of Flutamide over 5 days, about 2mg a day, which is virtually nothing. If that amount of Flutamide causes ANY effects whatsoever on your liver I'm guesing a shot of alcohol would probably kill you.

Just got back from the ER last night and got my liver checked. All my liver enzymes are completely normal again! This is after stopping flutagel for 7 days.

Maybe I just can't tolerate flutamide...

My advice:go easy on the Flutagel..this is very powerful and will lower your libido over time if you spread it like butter on a slice of bread (which I was doing)
I am now using just a little bit at the hairline, EOD, and it works fine, no sides anymore.
I have switched to using Fluridil as main ED topical. It does not have any side effects, and seems to work as well as Flutagel while being much easier to apply and leaving no residues.
Also added Finasgel, to lower scalp DHT even further.
This cocktail approach allowed me to lower my oral dutasteride amount by 50%, for the first time in 4 years.
Libido and erections are great now and hair gained on my 2.5 months Flutagel-heavy regime is holding so far.
Flutagel did indeed regrow a few (about 4) new hair at the hairline, those were follicules "lost" about 3 years ago. I never had any new hair on 4 years of ED dutasteride.

Good luck

The Great Unanswered Question about topical flutagel, which almost everybody on all the hairloss sites (except for me) is studiously ignoring: does flutagel really have a "local" antiandrogenic effect where it's applied? Two out of the three animal studies with topical flutamide (with the notable exception of the Sintov study) show little or no "local" effect. Is that record really good enough for the rest of you to consider using flutagel?
