We recommend it as 36 needles have it harder to penetrate cleanly than 12 due to the bed of nails effect.If it was just purely hole density then why is 12 pin cartridge recommended rather than 36?

Get a piece of cold dense sandwich meat, or maybe a fruit, or something else similar to scalp skin that you can poke holes in.
Mark out 1 square cm on the test surface. Then see how many holes you can poke into that square before the surface gets so obliterated that you quit trying.
