I've noticed that nobody seems to want to comment and help out.
I'm going through a tough time and really need a helping hand!

10 months of the big 3

I had a shed month 1-3, then no shedding.

It started back up around 6 months.

Now at the 10 month mark, i've lost so much hair that I've had to buzz and shave my head.

I need serious guidance!

Are there people that recover after losing so much ground?

PLEASE EVERYONE!
I had so much faith in the big 3 after reading these boards, and now I feel I'm in hell...so hopeless!

Please!

Have you had a test to see how you'd respond to finasteride?

I dunno, the only things I can suggest is to maybe look into adding fluridil or topical spironolactone. Join Hoppi on his S-Equol bandwagon if you like.

10 months is still, potentially, too early to give up. You may be a late responder to propecia or something. Anyway, I'd keep doing what you're doing buddy. What else do you have to lose?

Hang in there. I know it isn't easy.

If you are really struggling with it and want a hand (and have some spare cash) then yeah maybe a vial or 2 of fluridil a day might kill the rest of it. Shame the stuff is so damn pricey right now ._.

finasteride can take up to a year before it even begins to work. Just stay the course, and don't alter anything. Keep your eyes on the two year mark.

So the stages of regrowth are:

Shedding hairs aka losing more.
Hair looking worse.
Then thickening?

My question now is, will you have as much hair as you had as before you started shedding? Can I have a good answer to this?

If I've learned anything at all during my time on this form it's that you need patience and lots of it. Hair-loss can drive you crazy, just look at some of the posts here to see what I mean.

Checking your hair daily will drive you nuts, week to week you'll convince yourself that your hair has gone from looking great to being thin and wispy in a matter of days in a mad cycle.

I strongly suggest you start keeping a photo-diary, take a set of photos and note the lighting and angle then keep it updated every couple of months. It's the only way you can compare your progress or regression over time.

I check my hairline couple of times in an hour really... It's driving me crazy, and I think I see it both receding and regrowing. I simply don't know what to believe now, and yes it's driving me crazy.

These sheddings are a test real to your faith. It brings me a lot of emotional stress. So I want clear answers on few things...

I simply don't understand shedding... If your maintaining your hair by taking medicines, and you say you even get thicker hair then why is the hair falling out, and looking thinner? Who says it's a guranteed result your hair grows back? Even in the thinning places and hairline? If you actually see your hair getting worse, do you have any hope at all then, even when taking meds???

EDIT: Just a theory, when the hairs shedding, they hit another phase right? Is it possible that, even though they're invisible when pulled back, those hairs are still there? But they're invisible, and thus strenghting up for more thickness?

What about hair on and around the hairline?

Besides, I'm not taking finasteride, was on that for 6 months. Had thickening, but then I switched to dutasteride. Am on it for 2 months straight now, and shedding.

And I got a better sollutions for relaxation than chill pills. ;) Living in the Netherlands has it's advantages.

Read up on Tricomin and Nizoral, they are topicals that in theory, accomplish the same things as minoxidil and finasteride.

GREAT NEWS!

14 Months on Big 3

And contrary to my initial post, my hair looks great!

I shaved my head around that time, which helped me psychologically with the shedding.

Now, my hair has grown back to normal length (number 5 on top, 3 fade on sides) and no more shedding!

Here and there I get one or two thin hairs that fall...but generally speaking, when I pluck my hair or wash it, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!!

I would say that I am back at baseline or perhaps even better!

Mind you, 4 months ago, I thought my world was over and that these sheds would never end and that my hair would never recover.

Put it this way, no one can really tell I've ever suffered hair loss.

I hope this gives everyone the motivation and courage to keep going with their regimens!

Keep your head it, it gets better!

Suffer now (through the sheds) and enjoy a wonderfully full head of hair!

Thank you for everyone on this site, you are the reason I discovered the BIG 3.

Thanks for the update!
I had great results, but I started shedding at around month 11, to the point that I had to buzz it all off at month 14 'cos it began looking really dreadful.
Now I'm at month 17, and it's still not any better.
Your post just gave me a lot of confidence that things will probably get better.
