I was wondering if anyone here knows how frequently does male pattern baldness occur on people without any significant family history of balding? I know it can skip several generations, but I was wondering how many of you here are facing this kind of problem or know someone who does? Thanks

I have it and no one else has it in my family, both sides. It really sucks being the only person balding out of 30 people.

lol sorta know the feels. My hairloss is minor recession, nothing too bad. However, out of all my family friends, my dad is the only one with a decent head of hair left. The rest are mostly totally bald, yet out of all the kids through all these families, I am the only one experiencing hairloss. These guys with perfect hairlines with bald dads perplex the f*** outta me.

There are no numbers or stats on this. Its probably pretty low, but its certainly possible. No one has all the genes mapped out for their entire family so they can be lurking without expressing themselves until you get lucky
Again though if we had something better than finasteride like dutasteride maybe that was safer to take for prevention then male pattern baldness might largely be preventable, and not be a big deal. dutasteride could probably prevent male pattern baldness in most cases for a long long time, but its so risky most people wont touch it until they are already far along in balding. Who wants to take a drug like dutasteride the costs/risks without knowing they even have male pattern baldness?
