Full-on Wigs: Any Experiences Or Thoughts?

Hi,

Due to DUPA / receding temple points, I've been looking into the option of wearing a full-cap or wig instead of a topper. I've gotten great advice from some of the more veteran members here: you know who you are, thank you!

I've spoke to a guy who wears a full-on wig and he seems to be happy with his choice, however I realize that might not be common experience. That's why I was interested in hearing your opinion on the below videos. Do you think the wig(s) these guys are wearing are good/a passable long-term option?

Apparently the HIM by hairuwear is now also doing 60% human/40% synthetic full cap wigs (but for $1400 in Australia I am not paying that). I did buy 1 of their originals when they came out, I think it called 'Edge'. Its feels 100% fake and its not as amazing and the adverts make it seem.
I have brought a full cap human hair wig via Toplace and the quality is amazing and the price was alot cheaper than the hairpieces I wear.
The hairdresser I use only deals in wigs, hairpieces etc and she was amazed by the quality of the full cap wig from Toplace but was not very impressed with the HIM by hairuwear. She felt it really was obviously fake and looked synthetic and the that the cap construction was very cheap.
This is just my observations and feedback from wearing hairpieces and full cap wigs ..

I think they are a last resort, because of the limitations they impose on the hair length and the styles you can have. If you can continue to make do with the oval toupee design by adding temple flaps to your template, or even transition to a three-quarter wig which incorporates your natural neck hair and sideburns/sidehair, it's worth doing that. The three videos you posted are good examples of the sort of styles you have to go for with a full cap - fairly long, shaggy and free-style. Anything short, sharp or structured is out.

But if your natural hair gets to the point where neither a toupee nor three-quarter wig design will work, you can still get a reasonable result from a full wig provided you are willing to adapt your style to suit. It's striking how much better and younger that first guy looks with his hairpiece on.

Holy fck that's crazy good. First guy turns into an old model when he puts on the wig when styled.

Edit: The second guy could be good too if he styled it right.

The problem I see is with the side hair. Looks really fake and that's the biggest problem with all full cap wigs. Even Travolta's full cap wigs look fake.

The only reason the first guy looks decent after he styled the hair was thanks to the glasses which were holding the side hair in place. Interestingly enough he doesn't point that trick out in the video, which makes me think that he's more concerned with affiliate sales than honest reviews.

The third guy's wig is passable but the hairstyle is really long. Personally I can't imagine ever wearing a full cap. When my hair system was a little longer it already felt too hot and heavy for comfort.

Yes the sides are definitely the problem area. I actually think the second guy does it right (the system is otherwise in my opinion a bit of a mess, but in his defense he writes that he hasn't bonded it in any way) by letting the sides be long and messy. Adding glasses as an accessory, like you suggested, could make the whole thing work.

The other problem I have with the video above, it's a HORRIBLE haircut! It's 2019, with so many modern options with bald fades, undercuts, Viking mohawks... there is NO NEED to cover your entire head with a wig.

If I may ever make the move to a full-cap I'll be sure to post pictures. I really don't mind if people know I wear a wig, in a way I enjoy the bald look and would definitely like to alternate between that and wearing a system/wig. However it would be probably have to be semi-long and messy like Noah said. I don't really like the short style the Hairdirect guy is rocking, but that's just my personal preference. To each their own.

Yeah I wear full caps and hairpieces but only 100% human hair as synthetics always look it. For me, full cap wigs need to be longer and cut in a shaggy style to look any good .. any full caps that are short start to obviously look like a wig around the back, nape and sides. For me, hair is an accessory and not a necessity and I love being bald in Summer .. (just cannot wear hair in the middle of a Sydney summer).

As a wig user, they're fun, cheap (300-600 is cheap, come on guys, we work), and easy way overall while just on a stroll. These guys not only kick the ball out of the park but are becoming the new norm. A moment of kudos for the pioneers but 10, 15, 20 years ago who had to fight tooth and nail, were derided, but still kept on going and kept the money flowing for the field to advance to what it has become today.

It's not totally perfect, of course; when it comes to stuff like sweating, jumping, doing heavy stuff or the like when people get different results. Me? I just tape and glue. Then I switch to a whole new hairstyle.

Could you plz post a pic with your face blurred or something of you wearing your full cap with a good shot of the hairline area. I’m going to be completely bald by like tomorrow and really need to know what this looks like.

Given that I shaved my head under 2 weeks ago, and given that I watch primarily black women's lace front tutorials online (they're VERY detailed, unlike Curtis and StickOnHair, I'm almost considering getting one. They are pretty cheap online compared to ordinarily pieces,

I doubt I'll get a long haired women's piece (80 dollars albeit), cut the hairline to look like a man's, then do all the rest.

But I probably will try a Mono style next.

I've always liked long hair - the avatar is like me in HS for example - and I get long pieces and cut them. Six inches are good enough for work, but more and more workspaces are becoming more casual about, well, everything. There are probably places that won't bat an eye if you switch willy-nilly.
