Generic Finasteride, or propecia?

I just got a prescription for Propecia today from my doctor. I called my pharmacy, and they want $73 dollars for it monthly. There is generic finasteride available at my pharmacy, but I do not have a prescription for it. If I change prescriptions, is the generic finasteride the same thing? Anyone have anything to say about either of them? Are they the same thing?

Where do you live?

What finfighter said is applicable if you live in the states, but canada (and I believe the uk) have the generic 1MG version available as well.

However, the generic 1MG is still pretty expensive, so it's best to go generic 5MG. I pay less than $100 in Canada for a full years treatment.

Hey, do not take a generic. I took propecia for 3 years, switched to generic for 4 months, and in that time, shed a lot, head was really itchy, hairline receded, etc...and scalp just felt horrible, like i felt like i was balding. About a month ago went back to Merck PROSCAR instead of propecia, and everything is back to normal. Stopped shedding, head NEVER itches, and even regrowing a little on hairline. Im only about a Norwood 2, but my hairline is def. getting thicker. So its up to you, cause I know a lot of ppl are fine with generics but I had some wierd tiny white generic pill with the number 151 on it, and in my opinion it DID NOT WORK. Stick with brand name.

I am wondering where he bought it from myself honestly. I did buy finpecia from in house, and have been using it for about 9 months now and it seems like my hair is worse, plus I get anxiety issues from the pill along with sebrohitic dermatitis or however you spell it from too much oil produced in my oil glands next to my nose and ears. They get red and little inflamed. I always wonder if it's due to the finpecia, I don't recall getting it from the legit 70 bucks a bottle stuff which is wayyyy too much my god. However my hear did look better on it. Ughhh and now I am thinking dutasteride because of the loss and not sure if I should go generic there from in house ...soo many questions :(
