Getting 4500 Fuss w/ Armani April 28th- UPDATED WITH PICS!!!

Hello everyone. I have decided I've had enough and am going to do something about this . I am 34 years old and a norwood 4a . First off, let me say, message boards such as this as well as Hairlosshelp have been a godsend for me.. Some GREAT information, as well as support in cyberspace .. I have been a lurker soaking up information for months .

Ok, had my initial consultation with Armani last Thursday , met him in his office after meeting with another guy that had it done 6 months ago (showed me his thin scar) . Armani seems like a caring guy, out for the best in his patients .

Today (Monday) I went in for a second time to pay my $2000 deposit as this is required to book a surgery date . Alexander is there to meet you for payment and he is also very well versed in the procedure - he was able to answer additional questions I had..

He gave me booklets on pre and post op preparations for the surgery - the basics like dont drink alcohol for 2 weeks prior etc. He also gave me a time to meet Dr Armani again one day before surgery which is the norm , I guess for final valuations and expectations - I like that as it will give me 30 or so days to plant down exactly what I want.

I am very happy I live only 15 minutes from Armani's office .. Hope this means he'll give me the BEST optimal result (crosses fingers) . Not that he doesn't to out of towners - not implying that .

I have decent coverage in zone 3 and on the crown have a bald spot about the size of a quarter (just 9 months ago it was the size of a dime, I'll say why later) . Considering my age, we thought it was best appropriate to build my hairline once again.. He will put in about 2900 grafts in zone one and an additional 1500 grafts in zone 2 which is the zone behind the hairline ( we discussed it will be between 4000 to 4500 grafts total).

I used Proscar for 5 years and kept pretty much the crown and the zones around it.. For YEARS I have had a comb-over in the front but I made it look very hip (in other words, not flat in the front but spiked up in some spots) , I used stuff like toppik shampoo, followed by toppik hair fattener, then toppik powder added with some dermatch for good measure.. I did this almost everyday for years, at least days that I did not go out with a hat (IE the Gym , I have never taken my hat off there) ..

I started avodart (dutasteride) 8 or 9 months ago because in zones 1 and 2 (zone 2 being the area behind the hairline before entering the top of the head) I had pretty good diffuse thinning .. I heard a story that avodart blocks more DHT receptors and is better than proscar, so I gave it a shot.

Needless to say, after starting avodart, my bed and pillow looked like a BEAR slept in it . The hair was EVERYWHERE .. I lost alot .. Despite what I heard some say here ( as I have been a lurker here for about 3 months) to keep at it after large Shedding sessions and to stay on course, I didn't listen and I have gone back to Proscar as of 2 months ago..

With that said, I looked like I DEFINITELY had a case of male pattern baldness Before going on avodart, I just did a terrific job concealing as I have become an expert over the years with toppik, dermatch and a couvre combination . I was so good at my technique over the years, that it would look like I planted 3000 grafts at the front of my scalp simply with concealers followed by a light cover of hairspray. But with my great temple recession over the last year, this technique is deemed worthless because I need some hair by the temples to mask it properly . Without it, it looks like total crap - it exposes WAY WAY too much skin at the part now to mask anything.....

You see, I have the face of a 25 to 27 year old , even though I am 34 . I am single and decided this is the time to get it done.. I want hair to match this face (not trying to sound egotistical whatsoever, but when I wear a hat backwords women always compliment me on my looks, saying I am extremely cute and look mid 20's yadda yadda yadda - I walk into a sportsbar with my hat on backwards in a bar of 10 women, and about 5 are gazing at me .).Well, luckily I work at home ( have a home business) because I do not go out as much as I did a mere 8 months ago .. Because of my drastic hairloss of course..

What really REALLY irked me was this beautiful 26 year old french teacher who lives in my condo building.. She parks next to me at my parking spot which is underground below the building.. Anyway, I always saw her as I was headed to the Gym (with my hat on of course) as she was coming home from work . I go to the gym at 5:30, she comes home sometimes at that time (about once a week we catch each other) .

Anyway, we started talking one day (you know how it goes) and I helped bring her groceries up to her condo unit cause she had ten bags and being the gentleman that I am, I offered to carry them up for her cause it looked like she was struggling .. She then made this remark - "I ALWAYS see you with your hat on, whether it be a blue, white or black baseball cap" .. And I cooley and calmly replied - "well, thats cause you always catch me when I am headed to the gym" .. Well, she asked me for my number as I could tell she was interested in me ( the way she looked at me and acted it was obvious) , she said - "I dont know anyone in the building " even though she has lived here for a year.. I then said smoothly , "well , I am new here and don't know anyone either, so lets get to know each other" . She then said - " Sure" .

So, we exchanged numbers. I didnt call her first (gotta play it cool and right fellas, good to build mystery, women Love that) . She called me about 4 nights later and we hit it off for a good humorous 2 hour conversation .

Anyway, that original comment about her mentioning she always sees me in hats really irked me .. This was recently (as I just moved into the condo building 3 months ago and way after the initial avodart shed) .. So, what I did next was, I got dressed up and tried using my toppik and dermatch hands of art , unfortunately I could not emulate the look I had just 8 months earlier.. However, at the time I thought it "could pass" even though deep down I knew it couldn't with my temples so far receded back now ( the comb over technique I used last year is WORTHLESS now with no temple hairs to mask somewhat) .

Well, and I know this may sound a***, I went down at 5:30 acting like I was getting something out of my car as she arrived - yes, like I said I know it sounds a*** but you should see what a hottie she is ! Needless to say we proceeded to the elavator chatting and under the well lit small lobby, I could see her gazing up at my hairline a couple times checking me out..

We entered the elevator talking and I was crackin jokes, she's laughing etc , then we arrive at her floor ( as she lives below me) . She made a comment as she stepped out before the elevator doors closed saying - "You look a lot different without the hat" . She said it with a smile but I know what she meant..

Here I am, good looking face and women turn around to look at me wherever I go with a hat on backwards ( I also workout a heck of alot and am pretty ripped so to speak) .. I can approach just about any woman and start a conversation with a good chance at another meeting (with my honing conversational skills) with my baseball cap on backwards , of course .. Take the hat off and I look 10 years (or more) older , turning them off .. It's surreal how it happens .. And, it really hurts how my life is being robbed from me - like a rug being pulled out right underneath me (no pun intended)

That's it, I've had it... Dr. Armani please give me my sense of life back

April 28th, the quest to go back in time begins...

Thanks for all your posts of support . Even though you weren't directly supporting me over the past few months as I was just lurking, I felt a great deal of support from you folks even though you were supporting other follically impaired people.. Thanks.

Also wanted to add- A friend of mine advised not to get this procedure done at this time, as it will ruin my summer .. In southern ontario, we only get like 5 months out of the year of really nice weather . He said to do it in September so I can enjoy this summer and not look like frankenstein during it..

Anyway, I feel since I have the money now and I am thinking about this everyday ALL the TIME to just go and get it over with despite that .. At least the beautiful warm sun will make my depressing days over the summer with no hair seem a bit brighter, ( those are my thoughts) .. I wish I had it done last September as I would really be enjoying life right about now .. But oh well

By the way, That beautiful young lady in my building hasn't called me once since that encounter in the elevator with my hat off three weeks ago.. She called me 3 times during the week before that and seemed extremely interested, even inviting herself up to my place (but I declined at the time because I didn't have the concealers on my head on that moment) , not that it would have made such a difference considering what I have lost in the past 8 months

To those of you who think women don't go for looks like men do are OUT TO LUNCH . I am living proof as this is not the only time such a scenario has happened where I met a beautiful young lady (with a hat on) just to go out with her over the past 8 months seeing her disinterest increase once dating with no cap . It's happened 4 times to 4 beautiful gorgeaous women over the past 8 months or so..

I will post pics of me 8 years ago with a full head of hair, also my current status pics of my hairloss as well as a pic of me presently with my baseball cap propped backwards (showing hair in that little slit/hole where you adjust cap size settings.. As soon as its off I look like a totally different person, basically because of the huge temple recession lately..

There will be no doubt in your mind of what a difference it makes.. You really cant blame those women as I look like Brad Pitt with a cap on but like someone else who's ugly without it ( maybe not Brad Pitt but you get my drift)

Hi,
glad you're here on these forums. Armani does some of the best work I've ever seen, along with Hasson and Wong.

I really wish the best for you, and screw those women who are "too good" to date a balding men.

f*** them.

I hope your surgery results come out very nice-- I would have stuck with the Avodart.

As far as waiting until September to do it, I would get it over with... You'll be a lot happier for doing it sooner than later.

Cheers.

Sutchered,

I am always amazed at how many patients benefit from these hairloss forums without ever participating in the discussions (not that they need to). In my experience most patients prefer not to so wow, that was a mouthful and can totally relate to your experience as I'm sure many other guys can.

Now just think of how much fun you're going to have once your procedure fully matures. And do yourself a favor. Keep that cap on every time you run a chance of bumping into her. Then after nine months to one year post-op be sure you keep your hat off. You'll really have her scratching her head! She'll never know you did a hair transplant because Dr. Armani does some good work. How much do you want to bet that she starts talking to you again.

Listen, IMO the massive shedding was from the dutasteride but remember, it blocks both type I & II DHT. You may want to consider getting back on it once your terminal tranplanted hair grows in because that hair will not be inhibited by DHT and it usually does not shed like the affected hair. But either way it's your elective decision. Get your doctor's advice first of course.

Well, I commend you for doing your homework, for not allowing your emotions to get the better of you at the early onset of your male pattern baldness. Now you're thirty something, being pro-acitve to minimize your hairloss through meds, and well versed on hair restoration. In other words you understand your condition and all of your options.

I wish you the very best man, and can't wait to see your pics. :hairy: Keep us in the loop!

Thanks for the support guys .. Gillenator, I've read your commentary on the boards over the past few months , you have very educated insight..

I am hoping to get these results, it's an Armani patient, not one of the website pics . Look what he grew in just 5 months !!!

http://www.hairlosshelp.com/forums/mess ... adid=55307

I think these are the type of results I'd be looking for.. His hairline is not the typical "ultra-aggressive" Armani hairline (meaning , like an 18 year old's hairline). Also it is not "ultra-Conservative" , I hate those very conservative looks you see on Bosley infomercials.. Looks fake IMO , just way too much forehead showing in most of those ...

Anyway, I think this middle approach would be best for myself , as I do see how it makes sense having an 18 yr old hairline at 50 would look kinda odd.. The guy in those pictures there is what I would really like to accomplish . I will show this guys pictures to Armani on my day before pre-surgery consultation with him on April 27th.. I wish I could just flick a finger and have that hair right now,. LOL

For now, I'll just cross my fingers

Here's larger pics of that guy .. He was a norwood 3/ 4 like me and had 3500 grafts with Armani.. I'd be very happy with this.. This is his hairline after 5 months (at various angles.)

[urls removed as per Yuri's request]

What intrigued me about these pics is I do have somewhat of a straight nose as this guy, as well I have the same shaped mouth when looking at the side profile of his pics.. Therefore, seeing the hair on him I think on me would be a good match

Coverage wise, I think Armani did a heck of a job on him considering he was a norwood 3/ 4 and it was 3500 grafts .. Looks pretty thick and dense to me.. Plus in his posts he seems ecstatic . I'm definitely going to show Armani these pics of one of his patients before my surgery , as well as a picture of me at 25 with a full head of hair .. I'll leave the rest in his hands

Hey guys sorry for the duplicated posts. I've been having some problems with Windows updates installs which prevented me from running other programs and it initially appeared that this last post was not going through, but I now see it did, THREE TIMES!

Sutchered,

Well it is a good thing your not going for a real aggressive hairline since HM is not a reality yet and considering the need for future donor. I think you will be a happy camper when it all grows out!

Six days until your procedure! :hairy:

Ahhh the spring .. In Southern Ontario we only get about 5 months of really nice warm weather . Too bad I will look like frankenstein for most of the summer here as we have alot of ethnic festivals every weekend because of all the cultures and diversity in this city .. I always had great success dating in the summertime as in winter most people are couped up inside because of the cold. Plus, the women aren't all covered up in summer :)

To top it off , I just bought a brand new sports car a couple of months ago and wanted to cruise around this summer, but with this surgery it looks like it will have to halt my summer fun. Oh well, I wanted to get it over with and not wait until next fall to get it done.. Shoulda had it done last September - I would be sitting pretty now .

But what's done is done, I cant live in the past . If one goes through life living in the past and not looking forward living for the future, you might as well smell your armpit all day long and not smell the roses that are sitting right in front of you - A very wise man told me that once :)

- Does Armani do any work in the NY/PA area?
- If so how does that work?
- Does he do it himself?
- What do his costs range?

Be sure to keep your head covered from the potentially damaging effects of intense ultra-violet exposure in the sun. It is highly recommended that you protect your transplanted follicules from the sun for at least six months post-op. So if you're going to be out alot in the sun with your scalp exposed for more than say ten minutes at a time, PROTECT YOUR FOLLICULES. I would like to see you get the best yield and I'm sure you do too! :hairy:

Sutured -

Yuri has contacted us and requested that we remove the links to his pictures from your post on page 1 of this thread. So we have done so. I don't know if that is his imageshack account or yours, but if its yours, he may want them removed from there as well. He didn't clarify. He just said this to us:

"i would like to send a message inviting you to don't use my pictures and the other bellicapelli forum contentsl without my authorisation, if you don't want to register me this isn't a problem i just want you to delete my pictures from your forum as soon as possible because you didn't ask for my authorisation
best regards
yuri morelli"
