I was at this event yesterday evening at my university and I was talking to two other SGA senators--one guy and one girl whose names I will replace. John said he was getting cold and Mary said she wasn't cold. I said I was cold. Mary felt my hand and had the reaction people usually do. I explained that I have arthritis and my joints do not have good circulation.
She said "that sucks--you're so young. But at least you're not going bald." She then said "it seems like guys are losing their hair younger these days?" I didn't know what to say but it made me realize that, save for a few other young men who are also super distressed by a receding hairline (maybe like 2% of guys in college) NOBODY notices or gives a damn about my hairline.
Now, John at our age has a very receded hairline and significant crown thinning so I felt really bad for him because I think that is what made her think of baldness in the first place. He said it didn't bother him that much but also seemed to be a bit in denial because "blondes just have thinner hair..."
