Giving minoxidil a try

A while back I posted about how I had some very moderate hair thinning appear at the very front where I part my hair. I saw my doctor and he checked me out for male pattern baldness, and there's no sign of it. I have dense hair growth everywhere, except for a small patch at the very front of my part. I do have a history of hair loss in my family on my dad's side, but he lost most of his hair in his 20s, and I'm 39.

So he told me my choices and suggested I give Rogaine a try. I picked up a white box (generic) of minoxidil (saved $15!) and started treatment today. I'll report back over the months to let you know how it goes.

Interesting point: my doctor asked me to make a list of things that I feel stress me out on a daily basis. The list seems fairly long. Maybe he thinks I'm losing my hair at my part because I'm wired or frustrated?

welcome to the board...if youre 39 and just STARTING to lose your hair, even though your dad lost his in his 20's, you should thank your lucky stars. Hair loss at any age sucks, but consider yourself lucky to not have to go through it in high school (ugh.) Anywasy..from what I gather...a lot of doctors arent that up to date with hairloss. My aunt whos a very respected drmatologist suggested I use finasteride and minoxidil. I told my doctor about using the 2 of them in conjunction and he said he'd never heard of anyone doing that before. SOMEONES never been to GourmetStyleWellness. Anyways..from what I know, minoxidil helps to regrow hair, but loses its efficacy after a few years and of course may cause a shed. Finasteride is what maintains the hair you have..so if youre just looking to maintain, i'd look into that.

Minoxidil should be used when you have noticeable hairloss and you want to regrow some of it. That way n a few years, you can use it if you really need it. Then again..if youre losing your hair over stress and not male pattern baldness (and wouldnt it be awesomme if you were?), you definately dont want to use rogaine because that could make things worse in the long run. Maybe you could go to a specialist to find out for sure. I hope i've helped, but see what others say. Good luck!

v...of course, no one ever knows...you may never lose another hair again!...but it probably wont be cause of the minoxidil. Nothing avaiable now STOPS hairloss, but merely slows it down. It slows it down quite considerably though and if its working well for you, you should keep doing it. In the long run you'll almost definately have more hair, but you should be prepared for when and if you start to lose it again. Good luck !

BTW...are you cutting proscar pills in half instead of quarters??
