Hello there! I grew up speaking "spanglish" (half latino/half gringo) so please excuse any grammatical errors. Anyway, I decided to enlist myself in several hair loss forums and several "motivational" BS forums as well because I'm done with this goddamn insensitivity towards hair loss.
Background: I am 25 years old and I have been balding since I was 20 years old or so. In the Norwood Scale I'm probably still at 2 but have severe thinning on my temples (they almost look like patches now, hence my username). I recently visited a hair treatment clinic and, even though they acknowledge that I suffer from hair loss, they explained that my condition is still relatively early and that it would be best for me to wait. I then asked for advice to a close family friend who has some experience in hair treatment and was told the same thing. Now, apparently, I have to wait powerless for my genes to diffuse my hair so I can be the right candidate for hair transplant.
This, of course, is causing stress, anxiety and social repercussions that I am hardly willing to endure for much longer now. Therefore, I am oblige to start using Minoxidil (Rogaine). As I was explained, this product was used initially on patients with heart disease who claimed there was a noticeable growth in their hair. Now it is used in the hair treatment industry and is proven to work on some people.
The only remaining available product is Finasteride. This has several conditions as it is PRESCRIBED and its effects must be under supervision. It's a long term commitment usage and its side effects are quite significant.
I'm probably going with Minoxidil in about a month, when I know I am going to have enough resources to sustain this for a VERY long time.
Subject: I saw something on TV a while ago about hair loss that crawled inside me like f u c k i n g cancer. I have the pleasure now to share it with you, here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imwcT784F8k
This is the perfect example of how society reacts, very discreetly and negligent at the same time, towards hair loss. That specialist seems to know what she is talking about but look at that host, that f u c k i n g b**ch, look at how her gestures sweat out laughter and prejudice about it and then look at the clueless dude with a full head of hair sitting next to her, he just doesn't give a F U C K!!! In merely eight minutes we see a somebody who probably is working hard on this, yet we see how society sees it and acts like it's all subject of ridicule.
I just had it. Just a couple of weeks ago somebody (a female) pointed out the right bald patch on my head and instead of being cool as I always try to be, I said: "Can you do something about it? I bet you can't, given those stretch marks on your thighs." Spanish translation sounds better but anyway... you get the point.
