and this is after (December 2005)

As you can see a marked different. sorry about the pics, they arnt 'hair loss ' pics there just pics taken around that time.
My hair got WORSE since the first pic was taken and i started propecia end of april 2005. Also the sencond pic, my hair is a little worse since then. but im hoping it wont get worse too fast.

Anyway, im going backpacking very soon and i would obviously wonna carry on with my regime if i can. This is a trip of a lifetime and hairloss is really the last thing id like to be thinking about. Anyway. Ive got like 10 months worth of propecia so thats not a problem and about 6 nizoral shampoos which i can use whenever, but i also use minoxidil and im abit concerned that i wont be able to use it as frequently as i have been (2x a day). Most of the time ill be in hostels so should be a problem, but Some days ill be off backpacking camping in places etc and it will be a right b**ch having to do it in privacy infront of a mirror. Any ideas on what i should expect if i dont use the minoxidil? At the moment ive been on propecia almost a yeah, 4 months on which were 0.5mg which didnt help, i initially responded VV well to propecia, then dropped dosage for fun to 0.5mg, 3 months on i noticed increased shedding, jumped back on 1mg up till now and its now almost 12months, but shedding is the same  but hair looks OK overall. I am concerned it will get worse while im away, i mean this trip is gonna be awesome and i serious dont wonna be worrying about this sh*t, just want a regime i can stick to 'propecia and nizoral' will be no probs and then maybe get hardcore on it when i get back if its worse i guess.. . . .

any thoughts/ ideas?

Thx

How long is this backpacking trip? It sounds as if you'll be on the road a while. You could probably get a away with cutting your minoxidil applications to one per day for maintenance if it is going to be an extended period of time. I wouldn't suggest applying any less than this however, or you will be risking losing a lot of ground.....although a day or two of missed applications here and there probably won't matter much.

Transfer your minoxidil to a little spray bottle, f#@k the mirror, and just wander off a couple times a day to take a piss and squirt yourself in the head. At this point I'm sure you know where it needs to be applied and don't really need the mirror.

Have fun and don't let worrying about your hair ruin what will be wonderful time.

Thanks beaner, thats a fantastic idea about the spray. I think ill have my hair quite short when i go so it may make it easier, but at he mo its an inch and a half and i like it that way. As im diffuse the spray may be difficult but thats ok as i imagine half the time ill be using the dropper anyway.

to be quite honest, if i carry on loosing like i am, i think before the end of my trip i may want to start dutasteride 0.5mg. Is this a wise choice while im away? It just i know it is slipping and with the lack of strict regime surely it will just get worse, which, at the moment i feel strongley that i dont want. Im almost 22 by the way, young looking guy, without the hair i have i really dont feel all that great. . .

keep the comments coming

Your results are impressive!! Did you notice a lot of thickening in your existing hairs by using minoxidil?

I was in this exact position last year. I finally arrived at my destination after 35 hours of travelling, most of which was spent waiting for delayed connecting flights.

When I finally got there, there were 3 customs officers dealing with about 200 people, and guess what? We were the last in the line. 3 hours later, I was on my way to reclaim my luggage. It was probably 4am by the time I got to the reclaim area, there was no longer any luggage there, the whole area was closed for the night. I was nearly crying thinking my bag had been stolen, because it contained a 9 month supply of all my hairloss stuff and there would have been no way that I could possibly have replaced them. This is the main reason why fighting hairloss sucks. Our luggage finally turned up 4 hours later.

I advise splitting up your hairloss stuff if you can, because when you're travelling for months its quite likely that your bag could get stolen.

Its a real b**ch trying to apply a regimen while keeping it a secret from your friends. Its almost impossible to apply a regimen in a hostel with any sort of privacy. In order to apply your regimen you have to take any window of opportunity.

you have wet hair in the first pic.

you have dry hair on the second one, and hair looks longer.

Hard to judge.

I wouldn't want to start something new while out backpacking. You doses will be irregular. And besides maybe you'll get sides on dutasteride. And as you said you just want to enjoy the trip and possible sides will make everything suck. So stick with what you got already.
And besides why do you even want to switch to dutasteride? looks like you got good results with finasteride?

yeah i have had good results theres no doubt, but i am still shedding quite a bit and i am pretty sure my results arnt improving up to a year, it trails off after 4 months. Honestly there was such a huge change in 4 months it aint quite been the same since i dropped 1mg to 0.5mg. Ive been back on 1 but still aint back to what it was. I assumed i would have beenimproving up to one year and reults like 'peak' as i initially responded so well i assumed things could only get better.

this was after 4 months on propecia. and thats a huge difference to month -1 (march 05 before i started). Notice my skin too. Alot less oily. I do notice that. I may have had some moisturiser on but generally, my skin is better

Dont get me wrong ive had good results, and my hair just wont be there without propecia but im thinking its hasnt 'stopped it' and that was my MAIN goal. but its working for sure, its slowed down natures way. Only reason id get on dutasteride is i am pre-emptimg things getting worse as i wont be able to do the xandrox (minoxidil) as often as i woudl like and im on a slide as it is, so dutasteride being hardcore and all that would basically take away the need for the minoxidil if things go to sh*t as im sure id get good results from it, but yeah there is the side thing. . . .maybe save it till i get back?

never know HM may be ready by then

id say a good 30 plus, and these are the ones i notice. I notice about a good 10 after ill be minoxidiling and combing it apart. Its just the fact that they aint being replaced thats the problem. Pre male pattern baldness like everyone, it was relaly tough to notice shedding hairs, then last august after 4 months on i struggles again to get many after minoxidilling. Started noticeing them more when i dropped to 0.5 so got back on 1mg assuming it would get better quickly but it hasnt. One may say 50-100 is normal fair enough but i know my own hair and i know whats male pattern baldness shedding and whats normal. Its not even like i go looking for shed hairs, they show themselves in my sink/hands

Propecia has shone on one front, but failed on another. I thought it would keep my hair good for another 5 years especially as i reactled to well to it initially and being young, but, guess you can never know.

i would hold off on the dutasteride till you really need it, if you crop your hair to a no. 2 or 3 it will make aplying minoxidil very easy you should be able to do it in 20 seconds
