I feel like my hairloss has been accelerating while on finasteride for the past 10 months( i desperately want to get a hair transplant but no sense if i im not able to stablized my condition). New areas where i never had an issue are arising. Im either not a responder or somehow finasteride/creatine/protein powder/workingout has increased my balding process or im partially a responder but dht still to high for my follicles idk?. Anyways im going to get a DHT test while on finasteride and then when im off of it.(im going to order some dutrasteride online from this site and do the same thing. my Doctor wont prescribe it to me for hairloss).

1.My question is in order to get an accurate baseline how long do i need to stop taking finasteride for. i read here around 2 weeks can anyone confirm this timeframe. i would prefer the fastest possible time but obv most important part is accurate reading

2. What can i do to get the most accurate reading. i.e get test in morning?before i take finasteride/after ect ect will my timing of taking finasteride have any affect on the test. That type of stuff. if anyone happens to know this ill appreciate you chiming in

Thank You for your time guys,
p.s im not sure where to put this thread feel free to move it if in wrong section.

All blood tests should be taken in the morning before breakfast. Have a decent night's sleep before, and eat dinner at a normal hour not a late hour.

Two weeks without finasteride should be ok.

Creatine is known to dramatically increase DHT levels. I would stop that stuff immediately if you are genetically prone to balding

There's one short-term study with a small sample group study showing a modest increase in DHT levels.

Anyone who's worried about their hair really shouldn't be taking creatine.

I don't understand, why would you stop taking finasteride before doing the bloodtest? If you want to know if finasteride is effective, shouldn't you still take finasteride daily like you're supposed to, then take a bloodtest to see if you have low DHT level?

I plan to take a blood test in few months as well, I want to confirm if 1mg of dutasteride daily I've been taking is indeed effective to lower my DHT level, so I won't stop taking the drug before I do the test. Or should I?

I don't have my baseline level. So I'm heading right now to get my on finasteride/creatine dht test. Then ill take next two weeks off of finasteride and get a baseline to compare. I might test being on creatine and off also if my results come back too high. I'm gonna keep creatine during my off finasteride baseline tho. To not have it skew the results. Then if results to high ill do a thru no creatine no finasteride true basline. Then a just creatine and compare everything. To really see if creatine has affect on dht like that study said 56% it said which is significate. To try and answer that question. Prolly cost me 200 bucks to find this all out

How are your sides? Any changes in libido? Oiliness? Semen? Itchiness?

Libido is lower but not 100% sure if finasteride fault or just being 32 and feeling less attractive because of watching my hair loss accelerate every time i get a hair cut.plus i just got out 10 year relationship.if I had hair transplant or just shaved it off(which I'm planning to do Tommarrow to get a grasp of how I like the look.I recommend anyone thinking about hair transplant to get a buzz cut first and see how you like it then try a full shave. That way you get a frame of reference of making the most informed decision about getting a procedure done. I recently just buzzed it to a one to see how it looks and that was a big step for me) I feel like my libido would rise again as I would feel more confidant.no problems with ed or getting hard. Semem is more clear watery. No oiliness or itching

**UPDATE**

I got my first results back. This is on everything. Protein powder 4 scoops day which has about 2.5g creatine pre scoop so that's like 10g creatine, my pre workout has like 2.5g creatine so thats like 12.5g creatine a day total. on finasteride, on working out 2.5hr day.

Results were i was low 6.8 ng of a normal range if 30-85ng

Seem finasteride has lowered my dht but i don't get it because every time I would get a haircut to my eyes my hair loss was accelerating? What could be the answer here?

I'm off finasteride now because I'm still going to get a baseline in week and half to conti with plan to get my baseline

I have a few questions.
How long have you been on creatine when you got the blood test?
How long have you been on finasteride when you got the blood test ?

Did you drop finasteride after your blood test to get tested as 'baseline' ? I'd really like to hear from you.

I don't know if it's all in my head or creatine monohydrate accelerates my hair loss, but it does feel like hairs just fall off way more easily on creatine. It's a shame bcuz I love the feel on creatine, I get a fuller plump look, not to mention lifts go up.

Based on this study, serum dht after 45 days of 1mg finasteride is reduced by about 71% compared to baseline.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/10495374

Assuming a typical response in your case, that puts (calculated) your baseline serum dht at 23.45ng (below the reference range still).

I'd suspect you would need about as many days for your serum dht to return to baseline after stopping finasteride. Or better yet, wait 2 months.

I was on creatine for awhile (month or 2) because its in the cheap protein I started to buy. So I was surely saturated with it.(I eat a lot of steak with has creatine naturally in their) I was on finasteride for 10 months before blood test. I just took another blood test yesterday to get "baseline" havnt been on finasteride for since the 18th august so about 3 weeks

I have since had a consultation with john deip(and zering rep) and asked him about why my dht comes back low but I still see hairline thinning out. They both say something along lines of the front hair have more androgen receptors and finasteride not gonna work their much only good at holding the crown. May be broscience but for me i was still thinning worst on finasteride than ever before finasteride and even with 7ng dht my hair loss seemed accelerated for the 10 months on.Idk doesn't make sense to have lower dht but eyes showing more problem areas that were never issue. I know I am not the standard response the majority of people get and that's what's frustrating about it. At this point I moved on and buzz head/shaved to test out the look. Much better than looking at thinning in mirror

Where is the endocrinological proof high DHT levels is the sole cause of hair loss?

It hasn't been established. finasteride doesn't even work for everybody who uses it.

Damn posts like this are making me hesitate to start finasteride, my hairloss is already aggressive and if finasteride accelerates it, I'll be bald in 2 years..

Man I'd definitely take is asap if I were you. How aggressive your hair loss is doesn't seem to really affect how well you respond to finasteride. You can have crazy aggressive male pattern hair loss and advanced loss, and get insanely significant regrowth. While you can also have little hair loss that isn't aggressive and continue to lose hair at the same rate. I doubt finasteride would accelerate hair loss unless you have hyper-androgen sensitivity from it. And if you have this you would probably know pretty fast, as I doubt it would just affect your hair. It would increase libidio, hair loss, scalp itch/sensitivity. It isn't super common.

There are essentially 5 different groups of people in the way people respond to finasteride. The first group are those that get maintenance with very slight regrowth, over 5 years. This is the most common group and most likely the results you'd have on finasteride. The second group is those that get near maintenance with a slight decline over 5 years. This seems to be the second most common group. The third group would be those that don't respond at all and continue to lose hair at around the same rate. This is probs the third most common group. The fourth group would be those that get significant regrowth (like increase a norwood or more). The fifth group would be those that get hyper-androgen sensitivity. The last two groups are the least common by far. You'd have to take the pill and see how you react.

What about the group that gets fucked beyond belief with permanent side effects?
