The information in the link below confirms what I may have experienced after I quit minoxidil. The reason I quit, was I was constantly shedding in the application area right upto the 1 year mark and with terrible sides, I did'nt see the point in continuing. I was using liquid with ppg in it and I believe this was one of the reasons.

Can anyone tell me if prox-n is on par with minoxidil. I am planning to add it to my regimen....

The "Editor's Comment" at that link is typical of the kind of poor judgement and faulty evaluation done by male pattern baldness Research. For example, look at this claim they make:

"The post Minoxidil shed, termed Telogen Effluvium in this study underscores what we’ve been saying for years-that there is hell to pay for stopping minoxidil usage. The hair you lose as a result of acute shedding is exceedingly disproportionate to any gains or loss prevention you may have attained."

Nobody should be surprised that you lose any gains you made if you stop using topical minoxidil (that happens with ANY topical treatment), but the people at male pattern baldness Research don't seem to understand that the best available medical evidence (Vera Price's 1999 study of topical minoxidil) indicates that even though your hair-counts and hair-weights may even drop below your starting baseline shortly after you stop using minoxidil, a few weeks later they eventually get back to about the same point they would have been, had you never used it at all. That's all you really need to know about using minoxidil: if you use, that's great -- you'll get a bit more hair growth. If you use it for a while and then stop using it, that's okay, too: you'll get back to where you _would_ have been, had you never used it all all.

Ummm. I guess the Telogen Effluvium does not help in the hair coming back to base line within a short period. Mine is definitely worse and its been 10 months since I quit minoxidil for good.

Correction: I apply foam just below hairline, and make sure it does not touch the hair.

Bryan, do you think Prox-n will help me in anyway? Are you aware of other users on this forum having success? I don't want to use proxiphen as it contains minoxodil and it gave me sides.

The effing "buy products" section on drproctors site is forever down. Today though when I checked it, I could enter the order but could not proceed as it said the shopping basket is empty. Weird...

Yes, but how do you know how it _would_ have been, had you never used it in the first place? I hate to say it, but have you considered the possibility that your own case of male pattern baldness is more aggressive than average, and that's why it's worse now after those 10 months?

Here's a scan of a couple of the graphs from that 1999 Vera Price study. Notice how the haircounts and hairweights PLUMMETED immediately after the drug was continued at the 96-week point, but they rebounded back to "normal" (meaning the same as the placebo users) after a few more weeks:

Oh, I personally like Prox-N! You may have seen those before-and-after photos I used to have on this site, showing the effect of two full years (almost to the day) of using nothing but Prox-N, and occasionally NANO Shampoo. There wasn't much regrowth, but my baldspot back there was really "slick". You can tell, though, that there was a little thickening of the hair around that baldspot. I think it did a good job of MAINTAINING my hair, at the very least, and for the full two-year period of those photos.

I would'nt know if my male pattern baldness is aggressive because I was shedding all over not just the male pattern baldness area when I quit minoxidil.

I mean I knew I would shed but I'm just a bit dissapointed because I thought finasteride would help me regrow after the shed. But its still thin all over.

In fact when I buzz my hair to level 2, its hard to tell of my hair loss.

Anyway, I might give prox-n a try, unless someone can suggest a better alternative

I am starting prox-n. I went on rogaine foam and applied it consistently for 2 weeks. Could'nt stand the sides at the end of 2nd week and have quit it now.

Eyes were burning and headaches and that was it.

I am on RU so hope prox-n works well in combo. Bryan any thing else I could try as a growth stimulant.

I already use folligen spray and am on 0.5 mg finasteride....

icdalite,

I also use Prox-N and like it as well. I dont think it gives major regrowth but it helps. But everyone responds differently to treatment. Being that your on RU should help also. An androgen depleted environment would best suit any regrowth agents used.

You mentioned shedding and thinning hair all over? Is RU working for you icdalite?

Have you tried a regular liquid minoxidil without propylene glycol? Dr. Lee sells one...
