Ok, so i went to my gp 9 months back and asked if I could be started on finasteride, after looking at her computer she told me that i could get a private perscription on propecia. I then asked if it was possible to prescribe me proscar in cut doses, after refering to her drug handbook as she wasnt in the know about finasteride at all she agreed as it was the same drug and with the pills cut would be fine.

Roll on 9 months, I go in as usual to get my prescription re-newed..only now she tells me that she dosent want to give me the proscar and would like to put me on propecia!! I asked her why this was she said that the chemist who gave me the finasteride last time had spoken to her and told her this was 'Cheating' I asked if there was any procedures in place to stop her and she said no...I was a little miffed to say the least!

I'm not sure what to do about this really, I understand it is up to her what she prescribes me but cant help but feel the chemist has kinda out of line here? I see no difference except the pharmacy standing to make some more money?

I didnt take the perscription for propecia she offered and am in two minds whether to go back and have another chat..what do you guys think of all this?

why waste your time? go generic. most of the success stories on here are generic...

even then , tell ur GP you can just go to another pharmacy

failing that and u still want proscar, contest Dr Ashcroft, he prescribes the stuff over a phone convo.

Does generic propecia require NO prescription? If yes, where can I order it online? pharmacychecker doesn't report anything..

The whole story sounds a bit strange.... I don't think chemists would be calling GPs and telling them not to cheat the system. Even then, the NHS probably pays the chemist a decent amount of money for the NHS subsidised finastride.

To me it sounds like the GP wasn't happy with something and she changed her mind. She then made up a story to get you off her back.

I'm a GP and what your saying sounds strange but does unfortunately ring true, some chemists prefer to maximise profits and unfortunately take futher advantage of the very system that keeps them in business, key ingredient being greed

You have 3 options

a) Buy online: few companies on the net who can supply and as far as i'm aware you dont need a prescription. As generics have become available, the cost has now come down greatly for the Merck, Sharpe and Dohme Proscar so in my opinion you should go for the MSD product just for personal reassurance really (thats just a personal opinion and in no way do i say the generics out there are fake, more of a psychological thing)

b) Dr Ashcroft (GP) on here is quite good, iv heard he can get you the meds on prescription, he's contact details should be on the forum and he's resonably priced

c) Being a GP myself i can privately prescribe you one years supply of Merck, Sharpe and Dohme Proscar dispensed by a leading approved UK pharmacy. 73 tablets (i prefer to cut into 5 pieces) 365 day supply is priced at £67,
91 tablets (if you split into quarters) is priced at £77.
I have to ask you a couple of questions first and it takes 7 days to receive the product
