Hi, what is a GREAT DHT blocker? That blocks all the DHT's. I'm a real noob, and I am seeking answers. I ordered some Nizarol Shampoo,

I want to keep my current Hairline, it has unfortuantly receded a little bit.

I'm 18 btw.

Thanks!

No finasteride, no hair

Though after being off finasteride, say if I took it a couple months, and great results, the (new hairs, (small hairs) that I gained, would they jsut thin out again be lost, being off of finasteride?

Aight, so are they any good alternatives that are just as good as finasteride (Minus the side effects)? I heard finasteride has abunch of bad side effects, which i'm scared of.

You'll be surprised to know that men do need DHT. It is not possible to block all the DHT in the body, and even if you did there would be detrimental changes to your body and you can kiss your erectile function good bye.

Some hair sites may say that the only function of DHT is to cause hairloss, but they are wrong.

If removing DHT with finasteride, or removing DHT with a magic natural alternative, if your going to get sides, you will get sides either way. Even though side effects are in only 1% of users.

Indeed - the side effects of finasteride likely arise BECAUSE of blocking DHT - if you took some natural herb that "blocked" as much DHT as finasteride did, you'd get exactly the same sides.
Saw Palmetto blocks less DHT than finasteride, and people report having similar, but less intense side effects on that.

Incidentally, there are two types of the 5ar enzyme that converts T into DHT. finasteride only blocks TYPE 1 5ar (which is reputedly only active in the hair follicles), while Dutasteride blocks both Type 1 and Type 2 5ar (type 2 is active elsewhere in the body - in the liver, etc.)

Perhaps, if you're unwilling to take finasteride, you could try some topicals? Nizoral, Topical finasteride, perhaps Topical spironolactone? None of the topical antiandrogens have been proven to work, but I am looking with interest at the experimental boards (there are some people messing about with Dermarollers and topicals, and claiming decent success there) - I am going to wait for some solid proof before I try this stuff myself, though

I don’t understand the whole topical finasteride idea. End of the day if the finasteride does get absorbed through the scalp, it will do its job in terms on reducing DHT production. What difference does it make absorbing the finasteride through the scalp or taking the tablet?

If it actually penetrates through the scalp and gets absorbed, what advantage does this have over just simply swallowing the tablet if the end result is going to be the same? If people are scared from sides and chose to topically apply finasteride, just because its rubbed into the scalp where hair is, what difference does that make on sides or effectiveness? None in my opinion. Just take a low dose and stop wasting finasteride which most isn't going to be absorbed.

Obviously not suggesting this in terms of spironolactone or RU which works differently.

Wrong. Finasteride is a 5a-reductase type 2 inhibitor.

Thanks guys for the replies. I might get finasteride, whats a good generic one that cost cheap that yall guys have been buying?

And also, Does finasteride have long term effects? If I find the results to be great, and No side effects, would it be okay to take this stuff for years?

Thanks!

Man i would honestly advise against finasteride. I think im ok now, but like... i donno. I scared myself into thinking i was one of the ones with permanent side effects. It was stupid of me, but there was a day that i really thought i was doomed. Like i couldn't get it up at all. I still don't get spontaeneous erections anymore like i did before i took finasteride but i can get it up 100% hard in the moment thankfully now.

Put it this way, i wish i never touched the sh*t. I think it caused me some mental damage. like, always worried about my libido now, even though before I never ever ever imagined i would have issues with it. I'm in my early twenties...

Anyway when i was going through my, what was pretty much a panic attack, my whole body trembling at the thought i'd condemed myself to hell and only then truely realising how insignificant hair is compared to being healthy, i now know there are WAY worse places to be in terms than losing your hair. Seriously, don't take finasteride in MY opinion. My advice, take it or leave it. I'm not trying to scare anyone, but i seriously went through hell at one point. Atleast now i know what's important. I think most hairloss sufferers don't have this perspective, they only get it once finasteride fucks with their libido and what else.

on the other end of the spectrum, i've been on 1.25 mg of finasteride a day for a little more than 3 months and have not experienced any side effects whatsoever.

Just like the rest of the 99% finasteride users. Don't let the horror stories like above ruin your chance of saving your hair, try finasteride, if it isn't for you then drop it. As far as I know and scientific evidence states, any side-effect from the drog dissappears after discontinued use.
