I am 35 years old and I noticed hair loss around the age of 31-32. I am not well versed in the terminology of what kind of balding I am, but I can tell you that while I don't have a real bald spot, I do have thinning all over my head, mainly on my right temple (my bald spot as I call it) left temple (less than right) and crown(more mild). I have to comb over my hair to cover my bald spot on the right, and even then you can still kinda see it in direct lighting.
After some research, I was too scared to try finasteride, so I ordered minoxidil 5% online through a company called Keeps. Its the kind with a dropper. I've been applying it for about a month.
Now I started this treatment because I figured, if anything, I could MAYBE stop my hair loss and just keep the hair that I had. I was literally expecting nothing and I really wasn't checking my hair day to day because I figured it probably wouldn't work. The directions say to use it twice a day, but I use it just it once a day at night because for me it leaves an oily residue and makes my hair look thinner. So i don't want to go to work like that.
ANYWAY, I am getting incredible results from this product. I am seeing (and I'm not kidding) about 30% more hair on my head sprouting up as if I'm putting fertilizer on my head and it's just growing and growing and growing. You can BARELY see my bald spot on the right side now. It's growing in the front and back and wherever I put it.
BUT...I am also having some pretty intense side effects from this medication. I have experienced tingling in my hands, as well as a dull pain in my testicles. Yesterday I felt some fatigue out of nowhere and a little bit of a foggy feeling. I began to feel very anxious, but I believe that was related to me realizing that I was experiencing side effects of the medication. I don't have ANY itching or redness on my head, or excess body hair yet, or any of the "common" side effects of minoxidil. I also have not had any shedding yet. It seems like old follicles have sprouted where they used to be. So now I am thinking of just putting it on 3-4 times a week instead of every night.
My question is, have any of you guys (or gals) experienced side effects strong enough to stop minoxidil? And does anybody out there apply it 3-4 times a week with decent results?
Thanks guys, I'm not looking for a miracle, I'm just looking to keep the hair that I have now.
