I buzzed my hair my ENTIRE LIFE. When I first noticed very subtle signs of thinning I decided to finally get a real haircut. The diference was astonishing. It looked 100000x better. Couldn't believe I wasted so many years with a shitty cut. I looked like a turtle my whole teen years.
Yep same. It seems so obvious, but it's just not something that I ever paid much attention to. Pretty ironic that not being able to go to the barbers is what made me realise the full potential of my hair. It's also ironic that it might too late.

The trouble with short back & sides (and relatively short on top) is that it grows out badly. The haircut would sometimes look "OK" but only lasted me about 5 days because, when it's short on top, my hair looks crap once the sides get even fractionally longer. So u end up going back every few weeks and my hair on top never grew past a certain length (when it was just starting to get some waviness). They'd always cut the top & I'd let em.

During lockdown, I let it grow for a few months & then cut it to about a 6 on the sides & my hair - though obviously not cut properly- still looked way better than the working-class-looking cut I got for YEARS at the barbers.

"Get a haircut" is a meme, but there's a lot of truth to it. Also irritating when those very same people turn around & say it doesn't matter if you're bald. Might make a venting thread about this whole topic tbh.
