Growing up with nappy hair is as traumatic as going bald.

Hi everyone.

I just want to make it clear to a few people here that actually growing up with a certain hair type can be as bad as going bald in adulthood. In my case, I'm a white guy that developed nappy hair from the age of 11 and it was awful... just awful as a kid.

Up to the age of around 9, my hair was OK like most kids my age - soft and silky to the touch, something I was proud to be seen with. And then, things started to go horribly wrong, and I blame my mother for it because her White brothers all have the same nappy hair, yet she doesn't. I also blame my dad because he should have taken one look at his potential brother in laws and asked: "will my kids cope with having wirery, pubic hair growing on the top of their heads like that? Will they get a gf? What happens if my daughters inherit it? Christ almighty!"

So... my hair by the age of 11 was like wire wool. It was humiliating going to the barber and to be told time and time again: "wow you have thick hair", "man, it's like wire wool", "awww well, at least you won't go bald". Yeah, blah blah blah, thanks a lot guys.

And how was I to get a girl friend? Yep that's right, no one with long, flowing, glossy hair would touch me with a barge pole. The look of shock on their face is if they were about to puke said it all: "ewwww that's no way I can run my fingers through that crap"

I used to cry my self to sleep even in my teens, write letters to shampoo companies with bits of my hair attached desperate for a cure, a miracle perhaps.

But anyway, to cut a long story short. I decided in the end to make the most of my hair, and keep it short which now looks good. My nappy hair is just a tiny part of me, and I have developed other qualities to compensate like a sense of humour, sociability, character building etc.

Yes, baldness means you guys will be generally judged more harshly compared to guys with hair, but make the most of it: Keep it short, give the impression that you've embraced it and are dealing with it in an intelligent way, rather than sobbing in your pillow at night. Try not to go to places where women can only judge you on your looks. Instead join a social club of some sort where you can get to know women over a long time period, and they can find out that you're intelligent, dependable, funny etc.

No woman worth marrying and having children with is going to turn down an intelligent, funny bald guy over a jerk with a full head of hair; unless he's really good looking, of course.

Oh, I forgot to ask: Is there a forum like this for guys with their pubes growing out of their head?

yeeeeeah i think 99.99% of the population would choose thick nappy hair over male pattern baldness every time.

as traumatic? obviously you would have to experience both things in order for your comparison to be considered valid.

for the record, i've never come across anyone who i thought had pubes growing on his head so your post is probably a gross exaggeration.

I think if 'male pattern baldness' people where BORN bald, like no hair, we wouldn't really care too much about being bald. Why? Because we grew up with it. Now the issue lies is that most people are scared to take the plunge from hair to baldness. Why? It changes their looks without a say and it happens after 20+ years of having hair (sometimes less). Its hard to change like that. While being born, lets say with 'nappy hair', well you always had it. Buzz down your 'nappy hair' and enjoy your perfect NW1 hairline that frames your face.

I also notice most bald people (aka the peeps that lost it) just shave it and forget it. It is what it is. There are always those few that whine about it... but I think the whiners are the ones that are 'heading' to baldness. Notice around here, the worse whiners are like NW2-3's.

I think so. But for people that lose it before their 30's. If you lose it after that, you at least lived a good amount of years with hair.

Trust me, it never gets easy. No one wants to lose their hair. I have seen plenty of 40-50 year olds freak out as bad as teenagers freaking out about losing hair.
