Hair Falls Whenever I Run My Hands Through It

I can probably pull at least one hair in every 3 run through of my hand. Sometimes more. I say pull, but there is no force in it. It's crazy how I'm not bald already. This only started happening after I took finasteride.

How often does hair come out for you guys with a light run through?

Id lose multiple hair if I run my fingers through it three times.

It's almost as though my hair has just stopped growing though.. not the current hair on my head, that still grows in length but I can see my scalp now. I thought hairloss was a long process. In 11 montgs my hair went from thick and healthy with very minimal loss. To dull, wispy, thin and brittle... Actually seemed to happen within 2 weeks of taking finasteride. So depressing

If you just started finasteride, this is probably just the normal initial shed. That happens when you start the drug do I wouldn’t worry. It should come back stronger.

No, it's been 11 months now and I'm not on it anymore because of the side effects it gave me. Definitely has sped up my hair loss

What was your experience like before Finasteride?

Do you get hairs when running hand through side or back only?

This ramped up for me as well on Finasteride/Minoxidil and still the normal after a year. Was shedding before starting but ‘passed’ pull tests.

As far as I can tell it never happened before. Only aggressive brushing would make it come out. My hairloss was very minor to begin with I think and I just wanted to prevent any further loss and maintain what I had. But after 2 weeks I could literally feel my hair begin to thin- the slightest breeze would blow it around and I remember the first sinking feeling I had in work when I scratched my head and was left with hair between my fingers. Another 2 weeks after that my hair began to turn lighter. I lose it probably equally from the sides/back as I do on top.

Could be the initial shed. Though I’m unsure if reports of the shed and recovery are always accurate. Perhaps search out more info on changes to hair when starting Finasteride? Some report better quality etc. others report thinner more whispy hair.

It is such a bad sign of hair loss. You should definitely see a doctor and make sure the doctor is well qualified and experienced. Hair fall should NEVER be taken for granted.

Yup, taking finasteride is the biggest regret of my life. I was losing hair at such a slow rate but now I'm certain I'm going to be slick bald in 2-3 years, probably sooner. Not only that, the terrible sides I've had with it haven't gone away 11 months later.

You say that you had thick and healthy hair with minimal hair loss before you started. If a doctor/derm told you that you have genetic hair loss then you should go back to that person to let them know of your situation or get a second opinion. I've seen a number of people who start finasteride as prevention or because they notice they are losing more hair than normal without having male pattern baldness only to see their hair get worse. Start by seeing a doctor again.

Hi, I've also panicked about losing hair while running my fingers through. Did some pull test, always got few hair strands.
Until my friend did pull test and almost every time got 5-6 hairs. He is 52, full head of hair, not balding, not thinning. Only easily shedding hair when touching or pulling.

Typical reflex hyperandrogenicity.. burning scalp, increased rate of hairloss, increased body hair, oily skin, acne, dry hair, increased libido
I have all these (except oily skin is only on scalp and only mild increase in body hair) and I never touched any Fina.

Most of the symptoms you have are totally unrelated to finasteride, and in my opinion are caused by anxiety.

My scalp was burning and itching before starting finasteride, and disappears completely when I stop freaking out

I'm not trying to scare anyone I just never had any of these symptoms before taking finasteride. How can increased body hair, increased libido and oily skin be caused by anxiety? I don't care if you don't buy it, I'm not trying to sell it to you. This is a discussion board and I'm discussing my experience with the drug.
