Hair FINALLY Stopped Falling Out After 14 Months of finasteride/dutasteride- Don't Give Up!!

I just wanted to post that after 14 months of treatment. I was very patient and refused to give up. Treatment takes some serious time and patience and knowing this is the reason why my hair is no longer falling out and coming in thicker and fuller.

I started taking 1 mg of finasteride each day in September of last year (2011) and from the very beginning I knew that my results would take time. In fact, I knew not to expect any results for a year. For the entire year, whether it was shedding or just continued hairloss, everyday I would run my hands through my hair to find several hairs. Hairs seemed to jump out of my scalp at times, they were all over my pillow, my clothes, etc.. I'm sure if you're reading this, you know exactly what I'm talking about. Anyways, I wouldn't fret on the present. I just kept my eyes on the future knowing that as long as I get the correct regimen that would diminish my level of DHT, my hair would inevitability stop falling out.

In September, I decided to enhance my regimen from 1 mg of finasteride everyday to 1 mg of finasteride every other day and .5 mg of Dutasteride on the other days. I have been alternating days between the two since with NO SIDE EFFECTS. I noticed within 3 weeks that less and less hair was falling out. Over the past month, my hairloss has completely stopped and my hair is coming in alot thicker and fuller.

I don't know that my hair would have stopped falling out had I not added dutasteride to my regimen though but Im not taking the chance in stopping dutasteride to find out.

The main reason why I posted this is to tell everyone to NOT GIVE UP!! As long your not experiencing serious side effects, then why give up?! Ive heard of several others on here who also didn't get positive results until their 12th -15th month. I can't imagine how many people have made the tragic decision of mistakingly giving up too early and had they stuck with it and maybe adjusted their regimen, they would have had the success in stopping their hairloss.

WITH TODAYS TREATMENTS, ESPECIALLY finasteride AND dutasteride, NO MAN SHOULD GO BALD ANYMORE.

Hang in there and don't give up my friend. Let me know if you have any questions. Good luck my friends!!

I've been of finasteride now since March, and all I can say is the results haven't been what I expected.

Shortly after starting finasteride (about 3 weeks) the top of my head thinned out, and to this day, still hasn't recovered- every month that goes by without regrowth from the "shed" discourages me about the future of my hair. Did you go through a similar experience?

Your hair stopped falling out on its own -- not because of finasteride...you just hit your natural equilibrium point...

Yes I experienced continued shedding it was very discouraging to see hair in my hands every time I ran my hands through my hair, it just seemed to never let up but I also knew that it all comes down to lowering my DHT to the effective level. As long as it was lowering my DHT levels, eventually after enough 3 month cycles of hair growth, in my case it took 4 cycles (12 months) and the addiction of Dutasteride, to get it to stop. Since your hair grows in 3 month cycles, you mainly have to measure your progress in 3 month increments. You're about 9 months in since you started in March so I would give it a little more time to see what this cycle will be like before making any adjustments. If it doesn't stop soon, chances are, by making an adjustment, whether it's adding minoxidil or Dutasteride, it's just a matter of what will get your DHT levels low enough to completely stop your hairloss.

Just dont give up. Ive talked to a number of people who were contemplating on quiting but stuck with it. Sure enough, whether it took 10 months, 12 months, 15 months, they all eventually stopped their hairloss and even have had thicker hair and regrowth. Usually they regrew what they lost during treatment and most have head of hair that's much thicker and fuller than it was the day they started treatment. This is where many people give up and where many Dr.'s fail to have the proper knowledge of how these medications work which in turn they fail to keep their patients informed. I really believe that with todays treatments, particularly with finasteride, dutasteride, and minoxidil, going bald from male pattern baldness is an option for 99% of men, not their fate. It's just a matter of finding the effective regimen.

Too bad the a**h** doctors of my country won't prescribe me dutasteride/avodart. Those ****ers apparently believe that it's better for me to kill myself because of BDD+hair loss instead of treat it and risk temporary impotency (1-3% chance). Just shows you how rotten some people can be. Or they are just ignorant. I don't know. The worst thing is my country will not pass drugs through the customs, so I can't order online.

I don't know what to do. dutasteride could be my savior, since finasteride is ineffective. But nobody wants me to be happy. They want me to suffer and die. My death and cut throat will be on their conscience.

Encouraging stuff here, I'm only on finasteride and nizoral, but hopefully I get outta of this shed and start making gains vis a vis, the first few months after starting.

Lucky. Mine on dutasteride was crazy. Started at 30 days of using it, and every time I thought it was stopping, it just got worse. Between the end of the second month and half of the third was the worst part. I'd have to clean the pillow on the window because it was plainly too much hair to count, just combing it would make it fall, and I don't want to think about the shower trap. My scalp started to be quite noticeable every time my hair was not perfectly combed, and I think my crown has also taken a huge hit...

About 15 days it started to finally slow down, but I can't know for sure since that's when I started with the 4th product. Minoxidil, Dutasteride, keto shampoo... And now oral spironolactone. I don't know it this last one helped. Sadly, I am not precisely taking it for hair loss.

My current status is that the shedding phase seems to have finished, I have minor regrowth on the hairline (probably the minoxidil), and the hair looks thicker and slightly stronger (or at least it does nor break or fall from just combing). Not to mention that it is not that oily anymore. Now, to hope I recover the shedded. I don't have a lot of regrowth hopes. No side effects.

I think its fair to say the general concesus is you should try finasteride for at least 12 months to see results. Hair growth is obviously a slow process. What dosen't seem to make sense is that those who have no obvious results in 12 months all of a sudden get results in the next 3. Surely if its working you would see gradual improvement rather than nothing for 12 months then a surge of success?

Whats others opinions?

No way...12 months for your hair to at least STOP falling out??? That's a joke...if your hair doesn't stop falling out after 6 months on the drug, you're hooped...14 months for it to stop??? No way!! If you stop taking it now, your hair will stay the same..

Got some question for original poster.

Tell me a timeline of your finasteride and dutasteride treatments.. and shedding and regrowth timelines,

From what I uderstood you used finasteride for close to 1 year then combined it with dutasteride, then at month 14 you noticed results? And your not sure which gave you results...

I can tell you I've been on finasteride 1.25 for 14 months now.... I'm still awaitimg results

So it seems if we compare me and you it appears dutasteride is what really stopped your shedding and yielded results,

Your thoughts?

Please stop spreading this garbage. Treatments take time, 12 months or more is possible.
