What is the best shampoo that improves and increases hair growth and reduces hair loss? I hear that you mention T-gel, Nizoral and Jason's Thin to Thick, are these shampoos to be used in conjuction with hair growth treatment, or can they also aid hair growth if used by themselves? I would like one that can be used by itself and one that is preferably not too harsh. Thanks for your help.

Nizoral has studies that show that the active ingredient, ketoconazole, has properties that regrow hair... about as much as 2% Rogaine.

It's the best shampoo to have in your regimen. Also, T/Gel is good for keeping inflammation down. Jason's Thin to Thick is only good at thickening up your hair.

Yes Nizoral is probably the best, but most people use it in conjunction with other treatments, not as a stand alone product.

Dr. Proctors NANO is also good.

Does anyone know if there are other shampoos which increase hair growth, and how effective they are? So, in your opinion Nizoral is the best shampoo for hair growth? I have heard that natural shampoos are better for your hair, is that true? Thanks.

No it's not true.

I've been using Dr. Lee's "Regrowth" shampoo 2x weekly beginning last summer. Can't say that it's proven any more effective for me than regular ol' 2% nizoral though.

--- snip ----

Regrowth's 2% Ketoconazole/3% Salicylic Acid Treatment Shampoo with package insert

As of Thursday, 21 March, 2002, Regrowth Treatment Shampoo is available to Dr. Lee's patients.

Regrowth Treatment Shampoo contains 2% ketoconazole and 3% salicylic acid, so it has the combined benefits of Nizoral 2% shampoo and Neutrogena T-sal. It helps prevent the synthesis of DHT in the scalp and will likewise help to control dandruff. Like all other products featured at http://www.minoxidil.com, it is a prescription item.

We suggest that Nizoral's Daily Conditioner be used after shampooing with the Regrowth Treatment Shampoo. If Nizoral's Daily Conditioner is used in conjunction with Regrowth's Treatment Shampoo, most patients will not notice the 'itchy feeling' generally associated with Nizoral's 2% Ketoconazole shampoo. Please keep in mind that it is not necessary to shampoo one's hair daily, and that the new Regrowth Treatment Shampoo is designed to be used two - three times a week. If you are accustomed to shampooing on a daily basis, use some other shampoo on the days you do not use the new Regrowth Treatment Shampoo.

The price of the new Regrowth Treatment Shampoo is $13.90 per bottle, and is available in a four ounce container. It is reported that Nizoral's 2% ketoconazole shampoo also comes in a four ounce container.

Regrowth's new, prescription 2% ketoconazole shampoo should not be confused with any non-prescription shampoos previously sold by Regrowth, LLC .

Nano feels watered down and does not lather well for me.

Nizoral is a must, be should not be used daily, and should not sit on the scalp for too long (i know members here reccomend a several minute soak of nizoral on your head).

In response to those who use Jason's Thin to Thick...where can this be purchased? Is it actually effective? I've used a few different thickening shampoos but haven't found a great one yet, they've all been pretty similar.

Jasons Thin-to-Thick is the only thickening shampoo I've used, but I love it.

I try only to use the stuff twice per week as it contains Fruit acids / Salicylic acid. This is great for removing build up and dead skin cells from the scalp but can also be too harsh if used too often. It is well known that using a Salicylic acid shampoo immediately before Nizoral helps to increase Nizoral absorption - so this is what I do - I use Jason, twice per week, immediately before my Nizoral soak.

The Jason Thin-to-Thick Conditioner does not contain the acids, and is therefore much gentler on the scalp (while providing thickening and other possible benefits). If you want to get the thickening effect every day but also maximise scalp health and chance of regrowth, I suggest usage as follows:

Jason T2T Shampoo - twice per week immediately before Nizoral use

Organic / other gentle shampoo for the other days.

Jason T2T Conditioner - every day after shampooing with either Jason or the Organic / gentle shampoo...

My two cents.

PS - do a search on "Vitacost" - they sell the stuff real cheap!

I have a question about shampooing. I have been on Propecia for a few years now and it has halted my hairloss, or at least slowed it down quite a bit. Should I also be using products like this in addition to the Propecia? I have been stumped for quite some time actually on what to use for my showering routine. Any help woul dbe MUCH appriciated!
