Hair Loss? 18 Year Old

Hello Everyone,
Im 18 years old and recently i have been noticing my hair loss. Its not really my hairline, its just the hair on top of my head.

Recently I read that inflammation can cause hair loss. Ive noticed that when its really hot outside my head starts to itch where im losing my hair. Or when i get really nervous i get the same feeling.

I really notice my hair-loss any time i style my hair.

So i read about Nizoral which is anti-androgen that will help maintain my hair thickness.

Do you recommend this?

Also would you recommend Rogain or Procepia to someone my age?

Please keep in mind im on a budget =/

Hey man, welcome to the forum. It does indeed look like some hair loss albeit not the typical receding hairline or thinning crown. For 18 it looks moderately aggressive. I have a good friend with thinning in the exact same pattern as you do. Nizoral by itself isn't likely to do much for you but it is better than nothing. My advice would be to start rogaine and it wouldn't hurt to throw in nizoral. I wouldn't rush into propecia especially at your age. Try those for now and if in the future you feel you're losing ground you can throw in propecia if it still bothers you. Also do you have hair loss in your family? If not I would see a doctor just to make sure it isn't some other health problem. Best of luck.

My dads side 75% bald.
My moms is 0%.

My dad is in his 50s and he still has his hair. Its just light on top like how mine is now.

What im worried about if i took rogaine is that i would have to take it for life.

Is this true?
Also is there any cheaper alternative then buying it retail?

If i stop using rogaine will my hair loss rate increase?

LOL, got lots of quesitons huh? What about your mother's brothers and father? Or your father's brothers and father? Unfortunately my friend, rogaine and propecia only work for as long as you take it. If you quit, you will lose any hair you grew or any hair it helped you keep. However you will not be in a worse position than you otherwise would be. So no, if you quit you're rate of loss will not increase, only for the hairs it helped you grow. Cheapest way to get rogaine is online, ebay or amazon. Get generic minoxidil like Kirkland, but be forewarned it'll make your scalp itch and flake. Rogaine foam shouldn't irritate as much but it is more expensive.

Yea thats what i meant. My Moms brothers and fathers all dont have any hairloss.
However my dads brothers and father do.

Okay so i will buy a 3month supply of rogain foam.

One last question =D
Is it bad to style your hair while on rogaine?

Well I keep my hair short and don't style it so I can't speak from experience but it seems like other guys here don't have problems styling their hair after the foam dries. You're welcome and good luck! If rogaine works for you, you should see results in 3 months or even longer so be patient. Put up some pics in a couple months so we can see how you're doing.

It itches all around but mostly near the top.

I noticed it itches when i sweat too.

At 18, I wouldn't solely rely on this board for diagnosis and advice.

You should have a dermatologist look at your hair first, just to make sure that you are in the first stages of male-pattern loss, and that it's not something else. The other possible causes of hair loss are some vitamin or mineral deficiencies, thyroid problems, and some other things. These are very, very rare, but if I were 18 I would want to have a doctor rule them out for me.

As you noticed, once you start minoxidil, you have to stick with it. So, I would imagine that you would have the most peace of mind if you had a dermatologist look at and confirm what you're seeing first.

You can start Nizoral whenever you'd like, as that is safe and doesn't have any long-term effects. The itching might be due to inflammation, which could be lessened by Nizoral, but if you're in the early stages of male-pattern loss, Nizoral won't completely cure it.
