Hair loss all over scalp

Hi all,

I would like your advise if possible.

I'm 27 years old and I believe my hair has been slowly thinning since I was 21.
It may have been caused by stress in the final year of university.

Not only has it been thinning on top but also on the back and sides.

The pics were taken one week after a grade 4 haircut on the top and 2 on the sides and under direct light. It's a strange pattern on top.

Is this normal male pattern baldness or could it be something else?

I've been on the big 3 for three and a half months now. I hardly get any hairs when I run my fingers through my hair these days so I think the finasteride is working. But then again my hairloss was very slow so who knows. Don't think I've had any regrowth yet.

Thanks.

I got some of the same thing going on. All my sides and back look like pic 1. I'd like to hear what everyone has to say.

Thanks for the replies.

I've never really experienced a shed. My hairloss has been very slow it's taken almost 6 -7 years to get to the state it's in now. So I haven't really noticed any major sheds.

However I would usually get a few hairs in my hands if I ran them through my hair or when I first started applying minoxidil. I also used to notice some hair on my pillow.
However this pretty much stopped after about a month on finasteride.

Raj, yes I'm hairy and I think this is what is causing the hairloss. This happened when I was about 20 - 21 years old. Hopefully the finasteride can combat this.

It's common for a lot of people to have thin sides on their hair even if they have THICK hair on the top.

Mine has ALWAYS been that way. I have a couple of relatievs with perfect hair at 30+ years of age and if its cut really short their sides show through like yours and mine.

Definitely male pattern baldness on top.

Yeah I do have acne. Not as much as I used to but I do get occasional pimples.
I used to have moderate back acne as well but this has stopped for a couple of years.

I think these are all hormone issues.

My sister also suffers from some of these issues. She's hairy for a girl and also has acne.

Both my parents have very little body hair. I dunno why me and my sis got these shitty genes.

That looks slightly how mine started out (thinned around the sides/back during middle school).
You mention you have acne now, how old are you currently?
How is your facial hair (beard/eyebrows/eyelashes)?
Do you have any hair loss at friction areas of your body (knees, where the pockets on your pants rub, around the ankles)?
Do you experience scalp inflammation at any frequency?
Are there any other sorts of health issues you experience (either related or unrelated)?

I'm 27 now. I've had acne since 14.

My eyelashes are long and thick (I did lose all of my left eyelashes due to some kind of infection but they grew back in 15 months), eyebrows are also thick. Beard is quite thick. I need to shave every day otherwise I can look a bit rough.

Body hair is thick all over.

I think I have a hell of a lot of DHT. I hope the finasteride will combat this.

My father is balding but at the same age as me he had a full head of hair.

I have no other health issues.

Yes I have also seen people with thinning sides but with thick tops.

Yeah, sounds like finasteride should show you some results. Best of luck.
