This is my first time logging on and I wonder have any of you out there experience what I think has happened to me.
When I was 19 (11 years ago) I noticed my hair started to fall out. After about a year or so is slowed down but continues at a slower pace through out my twenties. However, last October I started the weight watchers diet and lost 16 lbs in 8 weeks and felt really great but then I noticed my hair loss accelerated. My front hairline has receeded back and there has been more shedding on top. I read an article that low carb diets (like atkins) causes a stress to the body and can result in hair loss. The article also said in most cases it comes back. I did the weight watchers diet but practically cut out alot of carbs.

Has anybody else had a similar experience and how did you get on afterwards. Its been 3 months since I noticed this and I have not seen my hair return to what it ws like before the diet.

Its impossible to say really.

But I doubt very much it had an effect on your hair. In fact, the common consensus is that a Low Carb, Low Sugar diet is good for your hair.

I'm no frickin' expert though.

extreme weightloss can trigger shedding - usually due to a nutrient deficiency. they also say the "shock" is a factor.

i dont think 16lbs in 8 weeks is extreme enough to trigger hairloss though - in fact those are pretty good results. congrats.

just get on a good multivitamin to be sure. a zero carb diet can leave you missing certain vitamins.

Thanks for the feedback. If anybody else has some information on this please join in.
I feel I am at a crossroads at the moment. I cannot stop thinking about my hair and am considering trying out propecia. I have started to use nizoral and am on a multivitamin course (nourikin by dermanova and vit B complex if anyone is interested).
Was considering that "strand by strand" treatment by advanced hair studio" but after reading post about on this website I think I will stay clear of those jokers.

Any advice for a guy starting out in his quest to retain/grom hair.
