Hair loss due to over masturbation- who believes this?

I personally do not, but what amazes me is all the M.D.'s that I read claiming that masturbating converts more T to DHT and results in more hair loss.

Here's just one example:

http://www.herballove.com/article.asp?art=62

Mitchel McNiff, M.D.

"Recent advance in the treatment of male pattern baldness have revealed that hair loss in males is directly related to DHT and the amount in your body. It is also an understanding that the production of DHT is related to sex and/or masturbation. With that in mind, does that mean there is a link between hair loss and masturbation?

Over-masturbation or over-ejaculation converts too much testosterone into dihydrotestosterone(DHT). High levels of DHT overload the body causing baldness and possible prostate enlargement if blood circulation is poor in the prostate area. Reducing the frequency of masturbation or ejaculation will help maintain low levels of DHT and avoid hair loss."

I don't normally believe bs like this but it just stuns me that an MD would write this crap.

Reminds me of an old joke Cassin:

What do you call the student who graduates last in his medical school class?

Doctor.

Perhaps our good friend McNiffy graduated last in his Caribbean medical school class.

There are many many many men over 13 who can't even get it up, forget have sex or masturbate. Then there are at least another 100,000 MTF trans who will or already have no dick.

This theory will never die until some us volunteer to not have sex or masturbate for at least a few months to account for hair cycles. I feel this won't ever happen.

That entire site is alllll messed up. A lot of their articles end with "you're f'd up, but this herbal remedy".

Personally, I wouldnt be caught dead being treated in a hospital - especially a teaching one. Scary, scary, scary places.

There are TONS of horrible horrible, dumb, dumb doctors our there....

Unfortunately for me, but fortunate for you and everyone else the world over is the fact that modern medical training now requires everyone to take their step 1 and step 2 exams to obtain their medical license and their step 3 to complete their residency training. Not only that, but other board examinations are required to obtain one's certification in any given sub-speciality in medicine. Lastly, re-certification is also required (for some, but not all specialities, I believe) and continuing medical education guarantees that most doctors (except dermatologists is seems sometimes) stay up-to-date on current treatments and such.

I can add a little bit more on to this, as well. To pass medical school (at least where I go), you must have at least a "C" average in every class. Also, many of the major classes that you take require you to take NBME Shelf exams to pass the class. If you don't get over a certain percentile, then you don't pass the class. For instance, in my medical microbiology class we had one such exam and the requirement for passing was incredibly low. Something like 6th percentile. Two people in my class didn't take it. I recieved 94th percentile and a couple of other students in my class were in the 99th percentile nationwide. That's just the way it is and you have to live with the constant burden of the possibility of not passing a test and having to retake a standardized test, class, or worse. We've lost three people in my class of fifty so far and a few more are borderline.

To pass our step one board tests the required score at our school is what is required nationwide. However, there are some people in my class (other than myself) that are pretty much the smartest people I've ever met and they constantly get above 90th percentile on any given standardized test.

You guys are right. We have a saying at our medical school. "C"s make M.D.s.

All that I know is that second year is the hardest year and it's almost over. If I was a religious man, there would be some sort of crazy dancing going on right now.

Thanks for the info Doctor. That was informative.

Now, what do you think of the proposed link between masturbation and hair loss? Haha.

The question I always ask is if masturbation causes hair loss, then does sex cause hair loss as well? I mean I'd think sex would cause more if masturbation does because it's more intensive.

i dunno. ive had some quite 'intensive' sessions of masturbation hehe.
i think its one of those things which if youre prone to male pattern baldness then its not gonna help. didnt the gardener used to do the 'chewbaca technique' where he cut down a lot because he though it helped? was probably a year
or two ago now.

I couldn't find anything on this when I did a quick search. From what I've seen, this idea has been used as a means of scare tactics by certain religious organizations for a long time. It seems like a lot of websites that try to promote sexual health say the same thing. Either way, the fluctuations would be short lived if they truly did exist.

I'm going to try the 'chewbaca technique' and I will report back to you with my findings in 3 months time. 3 months no masturbating. Starting now!
:freaked:

Everytime I want to squeeze one out I will just go to the gym and work out.

I've been more than two months without masturbating and in 3 months (the former 2 months included) only two times.

My hairloss increased and minoxidil (1 ml/day) with nizoral alone was not holding it. So i decided to take finasteride.

Maybe you were shedding due to your treatment. See, it was working..... :p

No chance.

I'm 44 and sex or 2 good tugs a day since a teenager and my hairloss only started in the last couple of years so all you young guys have no problems worrying that it causes a problem..it does not othersie I would have been bald 20 yrs ago.

in all truth talking about this is kind of disgusting. I do think though that it does increase something that causes male pattern baldness, but not enough to drastically alter a disease that takes its toll over many years.

It was not shedding. We can see when we're going bald. The hair becomes weak and takes different shapes of what used to be.

My hair is like a straight line. But when my male pattern baldness started some hair became in zigzag or curly odd shape and then fell.

My first two months on Minoxidil i achieved good results like less itch and hair threads in straight line and thick. After that itchs and inflamation increased.

Maybe there's some link between high testosterone/DHT and inflamation/hair deteoration.

With finasteride itchs/hair deteoration decreased and i hope it continues in that way.

Too much T/DHT is evil.

I have zero libido due to finasteride sides and so didn´t masturbate for months but I am still losing it...
