I understand that this is male pattern baldness, but it was caused by smoking. I had no such tendencies what so ever before smoking.

Bro I'm sorry but you might be the stupidest person I've ever met in my life. The answers are right in front of you. You've not been told by 5+ expierecned members that it's male pattern baldness and you're still refusing to accept that and proclaiming it's because of smoking? Smoking doesn't cause hair loss. My granddad has smoked all his life, he's not 69 and only just started to slowly thin from a Norwood 2. You're humiliating yourself here to think that smoking causes a receding hairline. A Receding hairloss is and will always be male pattern baldness.

Bud anything you do now in your life will have an impact in your hair in 2-3 months. Thats just the way it works, hair is a dead protein, the hair you have right now is a result of what you did time ago, so if you think smoking caused you to lose your hair immediately then you are dumb, im sorry it's male pattern baldness. Leave the denial stage bro

Male-pattern baldness is mostly genetic. However, I did stumble across this study which showed a statistically significant correlation between male pattern baldness and smoking: https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamadermatology/fullarticle/654456

In the conclusion section, it reads: "Smoking status, current amount of cigarette smoking, and smoking intensity were statistically significant factors responsible for Androgenetic Alopecia after controlling for age and family history."

Having said this, the original poster of this thread needs to understand that his hair loss is primarily caused by his genetics, and that other possible factors such as smoking are of much less importance. He needs to realize that in order to effectively treat his hair loss, he must use a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor (finasteride or dutasteride).

I smoked for 10 years.

But the biggest difference is when i drink Coffee, I loose hair on the top of the head at the back side.

I read its cause by Hyperthyroidism. Coffee cause Hyperthyroidism.

I didnt have hairloss from smoking, But when i drink coffee i see a huge increase in hairloss on back top of the head.

I read Frontal hair loss at the temple = Hypothyrodism

Backtop = Hyperthyrodism.

Frontal hair loss at the temple = male pattern baldness

Backtop = male pattern baldness

Here I fixed it for you.

Stupid doctor won't give me Propecia, tells me Rogaine has just the same effect. Where can I buy it online?

That doctor is very misinformed to think that Rogaine has "just the same effect" as Propecia. Stupid doctor lol. You can get generic finasteride on AllDayChemist or InhousePharmacy.

the gene is what causes hair loss. Once you have the gene pretty much anything and everything can potentially accelerate the process.

Yeah there has to be the genetic predisposition there in the first place in order for other factors to be able to have an effect. Male pattern baldness is most likely influenced by lots of different genes in many parts of the genome rather than there being a single genetic culprit, and it is also influenced by epigenetic factors.

No.
And, wrt smoking, wonder why it should decimate your temples and crown and not the sides.

The study I provided a link to earlier showed a statistically significant correlation between smoking and male pattern baldness. However, male pattern baldness is primarily caused by genetics. Other factors such as smoking may be able to accelerate male pattern baldness in someone who already has male pattern baldness in their genes. Probably the biggest non-genetic influential factor is steroid use, as it dramatically alters your hormone balance.

Is it better to go with Avodart?

In short, is it worth the risk of side effects? When I look in the mirror I can only think yes.
