Yeah, if your mom is balding from androgens you're pretty much fucked.

In kids who lost hair, 83% percent of them had familial hair loss. Here's the study:

http://www.mediskin.cn/uploadfiles/file/20130723/20130723104022_9832.pdf

"Of the 22 boys, six denied a family history of hair loss, four boys reported patterned hair loss in both their mother and father, eight boys had a father and three boys had a mother with Androgenetic Alopecia and one boy reported his maternal grandfather had Androgenetic Alopecia."

Wow. Thanks for this. It's so weird knowing that the mother could be the main culprit.

did you make sure you had all blood work done? for thyroid etc?

what are the ideal thyroid numbers for hair growth? is that one of those things where you can be in the "normal range" as defined by doctors but still low enough experience hair loss?

In US for women its .5 to 3.0 but they say it's a 'range' and for some people it can start to slow down or speed up but still be in normal range but they don't feel great (hyper or sluggish depending which way).

I think hair has issue when its hypo (slow) which I think means the number actually does up..it think the number used to be higher than 3.0 so maybe the standard has changed..they used to debate this range.

oh interesting. would you say for optimal hair growth it should still be higher than 3.0? can you use iodine supplements to raise the level?

Most of the variance in risk for A.G.A is autosomal:

Using common genetic variants with a minor allele frequency of at least 1%, GCTA-GREML analysis found that 47.3% (SE 1.3%) of the variance in baldness can be explained by common autosomal genetic variants, while 4.6% (SE 0.3%) can be explained by common X chromosome variants.

Because of those X chromosome variants, it's slightly tilted toward the maternal side, but not "mainly maternal".

I am actually wrong its up to 4.0 BUT a lot of disagreement on this as if it should be 3.0
I have no idea--my thyroid is okay so I don't know.

I'm holding hope that it may be maturing or something, but that's like 35%. I have to be ready for all the possibilities to not be disappointed.

Thyroid hair loss can be cured. My mother suffered from an underactive thyroid.

I know guys that have a full head father, and their moms even have Norwood four hair (on both sides).

Guess what, they didn't lose their hair.

Genes are very complex, they really are.

It's all luck and i'm the only person in this world who has bad luck with literally everything.
