It really sums up the social dynamic of exposing baldness to the (sometimes unforgiving) public eye and the seperation it creates.
Where I work, a guest with cancer (a bald woman) came in and let me tell you, every head in the lounge turned and looked at her, almost all at once which when you think of it can be kinda terrifying. It's almost like human beings have this instinct to automatically recognize anything different or foreign to themselves.

Yep. I knew this guy once whos dad lost his hair to the cancer treatments and he wore a wig to work because having no hair bothered him more than the cancer, which killed him pretty quickly.

As long as she is cured and no longer has cancer, you feel it is okay to mock her. You even said in your quote above "I wouldn't mock cancer".
