Hair loss on top and sides?

Hey guys,

I was just wondering if it is normal to lose hair on the top and the sides. I have diffused rapidly across my scalp for the past year (started last October), and I have lost a ton of density. I first noticed a tiny bit at my crown but then it rapidly spread everywhere else on top, but now that I think back to my crown it might not even have been thinning at all, and therefore my entire top started diffusing at the same time. However, it definitely progressed from the back going forward, eventually the widowpeak area. I am now also losing hair on the sides of my head and slightly on the back below the crown, male pattern hair loss is not common in my family. About the same time my hair loss started I also started to suffer from dry skin, itchiness and scalp sensitivity/pain, but I don't know if this has anything to do with it. Does this sound like typical male pattern baldness, or perhaps a different underlying cause? Take notice that this all from one year only.

1 year ago (September/October), not sure if hair loss started then: http://imgur.com/aqKsy3v

As you guys can see my hair is thinning not only on the top but also the sides, they are both the same length. Is this typical of male pattern baldness or does this point to something else. Thanks everyone.

On top it's most likely DPA (diffused patterned alopecia) and on the sides/somwhat on the back it's most probably retrograde alopecia.

You're thinning somwhat in the same pattern as me.

What do you think it could be then?

I just took a look at your pics again and it seems like you had the same status like now... It is just a bit more obvious that you have just "thinner hair" but I actually do not think that you have "thinning hair".

If you experience temporary shredding it may be worth to consult with a doctor about it and also to check your blood. Perhaps you have some deficit of some sort.

Overall, your temples look normal - in fact - perfect. No sign of male pattern baldness to me...
