Hair loss pattern

Can somebody give me advice.
I am unsure whether I am suffeing from male pattern baldness or Telogen Effluvium.
Now I have has a receeding hairline for the past 10 yrs (slowly).
However 6 months ago my hair los accelerated all over the top and front of my head. The reason I am wondering (and hoping) its Telogen Effluvium is that the hair loss is greater in some parts of my head. For example , my hairline is thicker on the left side and I have more hair loss in the area above my right temple than the other side.
Does male pattern baldness hair loss occur at the same rate on either side of the head.
My hair is starting to look a bit strange because of the greater number of hairs on the lift side of the front hairline.
Or would Telogen Effluvium more plausible explaination? Another reason I think it might be Telogen Effluvium is that my hair started to fall out more just after I had lost alot of weight ( 16Ilbs in 8 weeks)

Currently I am taking Vit B complex and Nourkrin's Extra strenght hair recovery programme for the last 10 weeks. Apparently I have to give it 4 months before deciding if it has worked.

Have any of you got advice for me.

If i were you, i'd just wait for a couple of months to see if your hairloss lasts. Not to scare you, but baldness is in general not a symmetrical process. Most balding people are thinning at a faster pace on one side of their head (as for me, it's the left temple).
But Telogen Effluvium could certainly be a possibility, so don;t jump into conclusions too soon.

I am experiencing a very similar thing. My Derm has told me I have Telogen Effluvium and that certainly falls in line with an "inciting event" last Fall, but the reason I don't believe him is that I clearly have some very accelerated male pattern baldness. My shed started and then my accelerated male pattern baldness started, and neither seems to be stopping and its nearly 6 months later. My Derm still thinks I have Telogen Effluvium, but if that is the case, the shed should stop at some point, but it just isn't. My temples, especially the right is receeding daily. I am tired of thinking that it is Telogen Effluvium and that this period of accelerated male pattern baldness will stop because it gives me false hope just to see it all continue. I now have resolved that I am going bald and rapidly. I'll be shaving my head by the end of the year. Not to freak you out, but my Derm (who is also my Father) says he has diagnosed 1000 cases of Telogen Effluvium in his life and never been wrong, but he's wrong this time. I may have had some form of Telogen Effluvium, but if I did, it simply activitated my male pattern baldness and now my male pattern baldness is out of control and I don't expect it to ever stop until it is all over which will be soon. f*****g Telogen Effluvium!

Thanks for the reply rapid frontal.
Since my post I have been looking up more info. on Telogen Effluvium.
Now I don't know if my diet was a cause of stress to my hair but I do remember having severe headaches the first week on the diet.
I have also seen pictures of Telogen Effluvium and some of them have the hair loss running from above the temple to the crown (ALOT MORE NOTICABLE ON RIGHT SIDE).
As i mentioned earlier, my hairloss is not symmetrical. Hopefully it is Telogen Effluvium and hopefully I will recover my hair.
I know I have been lossing my hair slowly over the past 10 yrs but I'm not about to give up on the idea it is Telogen Effluvium.

Anybody else with similar experiences? Am I deluding myself with this belief that it is Telogen Effluvium? :hairy:

Well, I really don't know, but I'm pulling for you. The possibility that I have Telogen Effluvium still exists, but my shedding needs to stop eventually and even after it does, the male pattern baldness I have suffered at a hugely increased rate, isn't coming back. I could live with that if it would stop within few months, but beyond that I'll be pretty muched fucked.

Could you guys post the links to the pictures of typical Telogen Effluvium that you have found on the web?

Even though I don't believe I have it, I've always found some of my hair loss pattern quite strange. I have lost hair on the sides a little bit. Well, the 'line' starts in the temple area where most people lose hair, but instead of going up and and towards the top, it goes straight down the side.

I originally noticed shedding in Dec and it still continues today. Prior to the shedding I had no noticeable male pattern baldness. As of today my hairline is vastly different and gets worse every morning. I know many of you will think I am exaggerating, but it is true-my hairline receedes noticeably everyday. Not the Telogen Effluvium type of hairloss, but male pattern baldness at the temples, mostly right. I went from a Norwood 1 or better (if there is such a thing) to a Norwood 3+ in 3 months. In 3 more months I can only imagine.

Has anybody ever heard of hairloss this rapid?

Has anybody ever heard of Telogen Effluvium causing a dramatic acceleration in male pattern baldness? And if so, does the increased rate of male pattern baldness ever go back to its normal rate or does it remain from that point on at the drastically increased rate?

I have similar hairloss above my right temple like in the picture.
Its been 4.5 months since this has happened to me and no sign of regrowth.

Has anybody suffered from Telogen Effluvium and had there hair grow back?
If so how long did it take and what were the early signs?

Or has anybody suffered this and not have their hair grow back.

I was diagnosed with Telogen Effluvium too by my dermatologist, but this was about 8 months ago and still no sign of any regrowth. My loss was a diffuse thinning over the whole top of my head, and although it was a lot it's only super noticable when my hair is wet.

I've read from a lot of people that have been diagnosed with Telogen Effluvium on here, but none that have had any regrowth. I've also read that it can take anywhere from 6-18 months for it to grow back, but again, have not heard from anyone who actually took this long.

Is there anyone on these boards that had been diagnosed with Telogen Effluvium that had their hair actually grow back?

Listen, if it truly is Telogen Effluvium that you are all referring to then it'll grow back unless it is accompanied by some amount of male pattern baldness. If your male pattern baldness has been affected by Telogen Effluvium don't expect it to grow back. The only thing that is going to grown back if you really do have Telogen Effluvium is what has been shed diffusly. Any recession of any hairline or temple area is not coming back after the Telogen Effluvium subsides.

Just sit tight and let it come back if it is coming back is my philosophy. What is the average regrowth period that father usually sees? I've heard anywhere from 3 months to well over a year--I'm personally at month 8 and still have no signs of regrowth.

tooyoung, he's telling me I really need to wait a full year before I could expect my hair density to be normal again, but he is referring to a full year from when the "inciting event" was removed. My inciting event continued for months and still does, so apparently that pushes the time line back considerably.

Im in to nearly 3 months of regrowth and my hair still looks the same very thin and diffused.Its coming back quicker in the front and at the back its only just starting to come through.I dont think i will have the density i once had just aslong as i have coverage.And im 4 months off from a year so i guess its going to take a lot longer than a year for me.

thats pretty much what mine looks like not so severe as that.The vertex is the same which is showing small signs of improvment.

That's interesting Mickey, cause mine looks like that as well. I mean it's not that bad, but the pattern is the same, RIGHT down the side in a fuzzy pattern.

This is really strange cause I was very sure I had male pattern baldness, because of the itch and so forth.

I guess I'll wait and see, taking finasteride anyway.

Here is another picture of Telogen Effluvium which is very similar to mine (CASE 1)again mine isnt as severe as that as i still have diffuse coverage over the area and i went from thick hair to this in just 3 months but regrowth is starting to sprout up now even though its going to take bloody ages to get the density back but im thinking about getting it all clipped short but not sure if by doing this it would expose the scalp even more and make it look worse :roll:
