Hair Loss Reversing After >10 Years

Hi

I'll give a background of what's happening. Absolutely no hairloss in my extended family, all norwood 1s for my brothers, father and other members. Here's a picture of me pre-hairloss

hair 20062.jpg

Hairloss for me started in my teens with a red, tight scalp covered in spots it progressed to a point by my early 20s where I was a norwood 5 and had a bic'd head. Unfortunately I never kept any photos as I avoided them like the plague. I tried Nizoral (which was very effective at reducing the redness/ scalp pain), minoxidil and finasteride and even dutas. None of them did anything for my hairloss.

Over the years my hairloss seemed to fluctuate with times I could grow it to a couple of inches and others where it just looked like white fluff and needed to be shaved to the bone.

In the past couple of months I've had somewhat of a breakthrough. I tried quitting caffienated drinks to see if my hairloss would improve and lo and behold it did. What I didn't realise was that it was nothing to do with the caffiene in my tea/coffee and actually that I was quite severely allergic to Cow milk proteins and Peanuts as demonstrated in this picture here.

Since quitting cow's milk and peanuts a few weeks ago my hair is much better. Not just on my head but I've noticed that all over my body my hair is getting thicker and darker (Not forgetting the other symptoms like chest pain, extreme bloating, shortness of breath and Tachycardia). I have also been referred to an Allergist as at risk of anaphalaxis

These are photos of my hair in November/ December of last year. You can notice that my facial hair is quite light and weak and you may notice my face is a bit more bloated.

Here's a photo of my crown a few months ago and now. Still quite weak but a little improvement imo.

I know this probably doesn't apply to a lot of people here, however for me my hair feels a hundred times better and I feel a million times better since quitting dairy My scalp is less red and sore, the bloating has improved, I feel fit and healthy for the first time in 10 years. If you have global hairloss and other gastro symptoms it may be a possiblity that it is being exacerbated by a food allergy.

I can accept that my hair likely won't return to how it was when I was young but I'm delighted with seeing such an improvement and will continue to document how things improve for me.

dutasteride didn't work for you ??? how long did you try it ?

Not at all, no hairloss meds did anything for me. Minoxidil, finasteride, Dutas, Biotin and other snake oils and supplements. Tried Dutas for > 6 months and all I got was brain fog and achy balls lol.

Did you lose hair all over your head when your hair loss started?
Or was it a typical male pattern baldness hair loss?
(Wish i was lucky to just have a food allergy....)

And good luck bro!

Your preaching to the choir here bro. I have male pattern baldness plus food allergy so I am screwed. But i know exactly what you are talking about. If i eat dairy or peanuts or wheat or candy...lookout there will be a fire on my scalp...i sent you a pm about it.

All over head, eyebrows, hair, everywhere even the nape and side of my head. More noticeable in a Male pattern baldness pattern mind. I've likely got male pattern baldness aggravated by an allergy.

It's getting much better every week though. Crown is now thickening up and temples seem to be recovering

You look you're diffuse thinning, so lighting is everything in terms of how your hair looks.. I don't get your story to be honest.

Fair point. My hair is improving so incredibly quick I'll upload a picture with it a bit longer later in the week.

Finding it hard to be dilligent with staying off dairy but seeing as my face and arms went numb after eating a burger with a tiny bit of cheese, I'm taking it more seriously now. Don't wanna end up in a+e

I didn't mean to be negative just for the sake of negativity. You know your body and hair better than anyone else, so I only wish you success. We are all here to keep and regrow our hair, no matter the route. Cheers!

looks good! You should look into zix as well, it may help reduce the inflammation as well. I started losing my hair under similar conditions, tight, red spotted scalp. finasteride did work for me, but I quit, and started losing, but used zix and it really helped.

I am currently off coffee, except decaf, maybe that will have an effect... :)

btw do you drink decaf or tea?

Just a quick update. Was dilligent with my diet and ate a meal that contained an allergen and within a few hours hair started going back to sh*t for a week. Seems to take about a week for the allergens to leave my system and for my hair to start recovering. Even trace amounts of milk will set it off :(

Got a picture of wet/dry and my crown as is. My crown was completely slick bald a few months ago so I know it's still bad but at least there's a little coverage

Looking good. I'm not sure if it's because of the hair length masking the hair loss but your hair does look better now than the before pics.

This is awesome! I am a firm believer in environmental toxins playing a significant role in hair loss. I have heard if other stories like this
