Hair Thinning At 24 Or Am I Overthinking It?

Guess I'd just like some people's opinions on this.. For the last few years, I've always gotten buzz cuts since my hair always grows back so fast. For the past few months, I've been buzzing my own hair to save money. Never noticed a problem before, but I noticed that my scalp was prominent particularly around the crown after I buzzed it today. Is this a typical look after a buzz or is this a sign of hair thinning? I usually use a 2 clip to buzz if that helps. Thanks!

That's pretty aggressive male pattern baldness. Grow it out much longer on top. It'll look thicker.

I've had a receding hairline for a few years. I just recently shaved my head and it looked somewhat close to yours. I grew it out and it looks WAY better.

There a certain stage where shaving your head only shows you how much your hair has miniaturized, and shaving it makes it more noticeable.

Thanks for the response. I had it grown out a little, but it was extremely thick. I saw a barber a few months back and he said my hair was in the thickest he's ever cut. Thick to the point that it was hard to buzz it without it clogging the buzzer. Think this could happen just because I buzz it so low and it's not actually thinning/balding?

Not sure if it makes a difference, but the pics I posted where from under a bright light. Other pics I have seem to show more normal hair.

Here's a pic from a different room if that helps..

Idunno man, the first pictures you posted showed clear male pattern baldness. The exact pattern. Can still see it in your other photo.

Regarding your barber telling you what he did... that's odd.

Just one mans opinion though. I suggest starting treatment ASAP. Good luck !!

Looks like male pattern baldness to me, but maybe it's more the lighting, the second one looks far better. Just keep an eye on it, if it gets to the point where it is clear you are beginning to develop male pattern baldness just start finasteride

Thanks for the response z.

The latest picture is more representative of what my hair looks like. My hair becomes more blonde in light, so I'm thinking that is having an effect on the first few pictures.

Is this something I should mention to my doctor? Or who would be the best person to bring it up to?

you can just see the island forming at the front. Overall you still have great density. Prime candidate for treatment should you want to go down that path. Your hair looks really nice and fluffy tho, would look really good grown out more.

The only doctors who know anything about hairloss is dermatologists and hair transplant doctors. Regular doctors literally usually aren't any better than a random person on the street. Even some dermatologists aren't great.

Unfortunately that is definitely male pattern baldness, but as you have good density it is only really visible when your hair is short. Depending on your hair thickness and density everyone has a tipping point where it seems like you've lost a lot over night but in reality it has slowly been accumulating.

Thanks all for the responses.

Met with a dermatologist, and he said I'm in the beginning stages of male pattern baldness. He advised against Finasteride for now, but wants me to start Minoxidil immediately.

Concerning 1 mg Finasteride, what is everyone's experience with the drug and sexual side effects? I am currently taking daily v**** for ED. My andrologist can't find anything wrong with my unit, but thinks its caused by a hyper nervous system and psychological issues. Assuming the v**** long term "cures" my ED, he thinks I should be off it within a couple months. I haven't mentioned Finasteride to him yet, but I'm sure he's going to be wary about telling me to go on it since I already am experiencing one of the common side effects. Talked with 2 pharmacists, and they said the potential for sexual side effects is <10%. Guess I'd just like to hear other opinions as I try to come up with one myself.

Thanks!

lowered sex drive is common but its not extreme, probably like a 10% decline for myself. You will likely get a good response to rogaine but be wary that it is not a long term solution. The damage to your hair will continue unabated despite a boost to its appearance.

I had bad sexual side effects on finasteride , couldn't even get hard after a month that well. Stopped taking the drug and I'm basically back to normal.

I'm on edge about starting Finasteride, but I will voice my concerns to my urologist and see what he says.

Something disturbing I found online.. should I be concerned about early-onset prostate cancer due to this diagnosis? Read multiple articles claiming that vertex and frontal hair loss/thinning is possibly linked with an increased risk of PC.

One more thing.. I was researching a medication I've been taking (Bupropion 300mg), and hair loss is listed as a potential side effect. I've been taking this med for 6 months, and have only recently noticed thinning hair. Anyone have any experience with this?
