Hair Transplant And Finasteride? Yes Or No

Hi guys, 22 year old experiencing hairloss around the hairline only. I am currently taking finasteride 1mg since the 20th Feb. Almost 1 month on the meds no side effects at all.

In terms of results, my overall hair seems to have got slightly thinner; but the main question is, do I stop finasteride as I’m planning on getting a hair transplant at the end of the year?

The main reason I started finasteride was to try and improve my hair quality for a few years so I could hold back on a transplant. Furthermore, after 3 weeks on the meds my hair is just getting thinner compared to what it used to be, and I was just wondering what you guys think I should consider doing next?

I actually asked this same question to a hair transplant surgeon. Most surgeons will want you to continue taking finasteride indefinitely. That means both before and after transplant surgery. His reasoning was that even if though the transplanted follicles are "safe" from hair loss, you will have continual loss of follicles in your balding area.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah I guess finasteride is a lifetime commitment. I think I’ll see how I get on in the next few months on finasteride then consider the hair transplant towards the end of the year

Is a transplant out of the question for someone that a. Had sides on Finasteride b. Didn’t respond despite sides?
