arrogantprick,

I also am in the DC area and you would think there would be more great hair transplant surgeons here but guess what? Not the case at all.

BUT, there is one talented hair transplant surgeon in Richmond, and Virginia Beach, VA. It's Dr. Ed Epstein and he has a clinic in both locations. He does very good work and he's been around a long time. He's highly respected by his colleages too.

So results are what count and I have seen lots of his patients and they look awesome!

Stay away from HRG, Bosley, and MHR! :freaked2:

Dr. Epstein

Gillenator

I have been doing some research on choosing the right doctor for my medical hair restoration and luckily came across this site. I live in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia (Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Norfolk, Hampton, ect.) and noticed that you recommened Dr. Epstein who has an office in Virginia Beach. I went to his website below and it now says he has joined Bosley Medical. I'm confused because you also said to stay away from Bosley Medical. Please help.

I had no idea that Dr. Edward Epstein joined Bosley. Wow.

Good hair restoration physicians are few and far between, frydog. Dr. Jerry Cooley, who performed my two procedures is located in Charlotte, NC. You can check out my progress in the link in my signature line. Yeah, I have come a long way.

There is a lot of photos in that thread so it may take a bit to load. I am only 4 months out from my second procedure so it isn't fully grown in yet (in fact, the last photos I have posted from that is only 2 weeks post op) but you will be able to see what just the first did for me.

If you have any questions about Dr. Cooley I'll help as best as I can. I don't know if you have heard about him but he is the U.S. spokesperson and consultant for Intercytex, the leading research company developing hair cell culturing. He and his staff are top-notch, to say the least. I don't work for his clinic but I do crow about his work online as much as I can because I have seen too many "bad" hair transplants and Dr. Cooley is not only highly skilled and using the latest techniques in hair transplantation, but he and his staff are extremely ethical and do not perform procedures just to make a buck. That is certainly a rarity in the hair transplant business.

frydog,

Wow, I had no idea Dr. Epstein joined Bosley. You are at the correct website for him too. Still, I have to say he does good work because I've seen it. So here's the deal. He may be talented and proven but why he would join up with Bosley is beyond me. My guess is that it won't last long once he sees how they operate. That's my opinion.

I am totally against anyone or any company that uses salepeople to "sell surgery". And these hair mills use commissioned salespeople. Commissions have NO PLACE in any type of medical practice! PERIOD!

There's also a Dr. Ted Katz in the Philly area who intially worked for Bosley and then went to MHR. Like he did not learn his lesson at Bosley?! IMO, he made the same mistake twice, but now I heard he is on his own. I have also seen a fair amount of his work which is also good. IMO, he is very temperamental, especially with his staff. I never recommend him to anyone.

I totally agree with Not Me in that Dr. Jerry Cooley is also very talented and ethical. He's also been around for a very long time and well respected. I've seen his work too which is very good and he's not that far from you in North Carolina. He has a great assistant by the name of Ailene who also works with him in the OR. I have spoken with her several times regarding some of the dynamics of the FUHT procedure and I find her knowledgable and helpful.

NotMe,

Very cool you had two procedures with Dr. Cooley. Glad to hear you are happy with his work two times!

Not Me

Could you tell me the costs involved with your procedure with Dr. Cooley. Its very hard to find accurate cost information on the internet. Also how long did the procedure take when you actually got in the cahir. Any information you could tell me would be helpful.

Thank You

Dr. Epstein

Do you know what Dr. Epstein's typical price is? I'm going for a consulation with him soon and was wondering what I could possibly haggle down to.

Just wanted to update you. I put a call into Dr. Cooley and e-mailed him as well. He replied to my e-mail and said he would call me but he never did follow through. I did let his assistant Ailene know I was wanting to get some answers for you, still nothing.

I believe Dr. Epstein's prices are what Bosley sets for him, anyway that's what the hair mills usually do.
