Men have 8000-12000 grafts available to transplant, presuming you are going to a good clinic that doesn't butcher you; and these butcher clinics say you have only 5000. This means that these grafts (a lot) would have to cover the top of the head predisposed to balding. When a person determines their balding has reached an unacceptable point, that is the time to do the procedure with a built in recession design. This way, the worst case scenario is some thinning at the crown in their 30's and 40's (treatable w/ finasteride/minoxidil. anyway), when donor hair is finally used up. This is completely acceptable b/c thinning is expected at those ages. There is no need to panic with the procedures that are available today, however a bad hair transplant is worse than balding . . .. . .CHOOSE AN ELITE SURGEON. Def. go for FUE if you can afford it, prices are dropping and financing is available. There is no reason to have a scar on your head with FUE being even more effective since the procedure reduces shock fallout and is better for density (less tissue has to be taken so the graft hole is smaller therefore less scalp trauma=dense packing). Everyone has little to worry about if they use a good surgeon who should tell them the same.

So when Alvi uses 3000 grafts on a small area at the hairline of a 20 year old & the 20 year old ends up a NW7 in what way would that look good ?
He may be able to get another 3000 from a NW7 but it ain't gonna cover a whole lot now is it. Someone who's very bald won't get anywhere near 12000 grafts & none of us know just how bald we'll end up being.

He doesn't recommend using 3000 grafts for a small area of the hairline, he recommended that I use only 1100 @ 70% density so that I still have plenty of donor area remaining. I am 25.
For those that are destined to become a NW7, why would that matter? This takes decades to occur and you would lose that donor implanted hair anyway if you are going to become that bald since a NW7 goes bald practically down to the back of the neck. So, if you are so unlucky for this to happen into your 50's, the worst case scenario is that you wasted some money when you were 20 something.
However, Multiplcation techniques will be availbale before this would naturally develop anyway (within the next 15 yrs). male pattern baldness is such a long process, especially when the process can be reversed or stalled when using Finesteride/minoxidil now. Not to mention other treatments that are in development. With all of these options and surgical approaches expanding there is no reason to go bald unless you really don't care which is cool too.
