your situation sounds a lot like dench57's
he got a terrible scalp itch from taking finasteride and it made his hair worse

^Noticing a lot of UK fellas on this site ha,,no surprises when I see the amount of receding hairlines on a daily basis. I wonder if we have any Japanese or South American members? I lived with a Colombian guy for 3 years. Dude had the lowest juvenile hairline I've ever seen.. so envious

I wonder if it has to do with the fact that I take too many pictures and lift my hair up too much.. Am Makig it way worse by just stressing about it? Will it grow back?? It's gotten a hundred times worse in the last month how is this even possible. Do I even have a chance

I don't see how finasteride could potentially make your hair worse. It simply blocks DHT. If anything you had a lot of hidden minaturization across a large portion of your scalp that being exposed by your hair cycling. Trust me I can relate. My hair looks thinner and thinner by the day and i've been on finasteride for under a month. But this was the way my male pattern baldness was progressing prior to finasteride. The hair that's thinning now was thinning prior to finasteride and time will tell if I can recover measurable density after several cycles...

Will it get better though? Like it is seriously scaring me. These were taken 9 days apart. NINE. Before: link After: link

In all honesty, I don't see a significant difference in those photos, and if there is, it's quite minimal. I understand that 'shedding' is common when using finasteride, and this indicates that the drug is working. Are you experiencing any other side effects? If not, it may be worth continuing with it until the 8-12 month mark, where users tend to start seeing results. Anyway, I wish you the best of luck with whatever you do, man!

Have you noticed any other changes apart from the shedding? Itchy/burning sensation where you're losing hair, increased oiliness in your hair? Propecia destroyed my hairline but I didn't have increased shedding, the hairs behind my temples just completely miniaturised in the space of a few months and this was made obvious by the "male pattern baldness itch" I never had before Propecia.

I don't see how finasteride could potentially make your hair worse. It simply blocks DHT.

Speaking from personal experience, unfortunately in rare cases it can make your hair worse. male pattern baldness is caused by your androgen receptor sensitivity to DHT in your hair follicle. Finasteride can hugely upregulate (increased number/increased sensitivity) your androgen receptors. I think the vast majority don't experience that much upregulation, and the 70-80% DHT they're blocking with finasteride outweighs the upregulation anyway. BUT if you're a poor responder to finasteride (10-20% of people?) AND you experience intense upregulation, you've now got a scalp full of hypersensitive androgen receptors and DHT wreaking 5x the havoc it did before.

finasteride 100% makes your hair worse for AT LEAST 6-12 months (this is primarily for NW2's. It seems that if your hair is already destroyed you won't go through as much shedding). Hopefully you'll eventually grow it back--and thicker than before. In my case, I've been on finasteride for just over a year and I'm honestly not sure if my hair is the same, worse, or better. It depends on the day. I'm about to kick the dose up from .5mg to 1mg ED just for sh!ts and giggles.

Once again, finasteride CAN make your hair worse. For most people it's temporary. Stick with it.

Also, get some 1 or 2% ketoconazole/nizoral. I'd recommend using it 2-3 times a week for 1-6 months (depends on how your hair and scalp feel/react), then drop it to once a week. It can be harsh and I'm pretty sure can cause shedding, so you need to see how your hair and scalp react to it, but it can be helpful if used properly.

I'm 21. I honestly feel suicidal. I just compared my pictures now from 2 months ago. Looking back, it wasn't even that bad 2 months ago. Almost exactly a month ago, I started propecia. It looks terrible now and I want to cry.

Overall, does my hairline look terrible or better than I think it does? Am I schizophrenic? Every time I look at these photos I see something different. I don't know if I am terrible or mild.

I'd urge you to try JBCO Jamaican black Castor Oil apply it twice/thrice a week give it about 4-5 weeks and see if you get any improvement

Yeah finasteride can cause hormonal imbalances that can kill your hair. I'm on finasteride, 1year 9 months) at the one year mark I had burning sensations in my left hairline and within a week it thinned out 60%. Yes I have pictures. I had sore feelings along my hairline and behind pretty hardcore for 6 months and now I have an occasional itch/tingle/sting pain. Btw, when the shedding started it was the most I've ever seen in my entire life. My hair is thin all over now. So yeah, even though there are doubters, it totally can cause Telogen Effluvium and make hair worse. Like dench said, upregulationg could be the factor because my body hair increased as well.

I experienced this as well. In month 4 and 5 of taking finasteride I could see big changes to my frontal hairline. It was rapid. Unfortunately the frontal loss got worse up until month 8 and that's when I decided to just stop finasteride.
