Just wondering if there's any connection between hair loss speed and those who are able to grow a thick beard in people who have the balding gene

None.

it all falls down to having the gene, and how much DHT receptors are localized within your scalp. Some men are lucky, and have high levels of DHT every where but the scalp.

My best friend is one of those type, who happens to be hairy all over, could grow a full beard by 18 and has a thick full head of hair.

Some men are just genetic abominations. The type who have low DHT (hair less on the body, low libido, can't grow facial hair) yet have aggressive baldness. Real sensitive to DHT at the scalp, and are prone to estrogen related side effects. Skinny fat bodies.

Check out the recent paper published in Nature Communications ( http://www.nature.com/ncomms/2016/160301/ncomms10815/full/ncomms10815.html ), it may clarify that question for you. (by the way, Swoop posted it in the ' New research' section).

But there IS strong anecdotal evidence that heavy body hair (including beard hair) and hair loss are linked. It's why so many report reduced body hair growth while on anti-androgens - DHT, body hair growth, and hair loss go hand in hand.

And remember, buddy, correlation does not presuppose causation =)

Well, I don't think if you have a problem with your hir you will have a problem in Beard grows.

Like you know I have friends who are bald, but they have like really heave beard.

Or the opposite side

Nearly every man over 30 can grow a full bear yet not every over 30 is bald. There is zero correlation.

Men who suffer aggressive hair loss, and tend to have zero body hair don't necessary have low level of DHT. They might have low sensitive body hair follicles.

Nope, I've been losing hair for a long while and have only recently been able to grow a beard worth having!
