Hairloss and jobs (how much effect do you think it has?)

I have been unemployed for over 4 months. I have gone on over 10 job interviews and dress well, prepare good questions etc but still no job. I also have nothing in my past employment (i.e. being fired etc) and no criminal record that might cause an employer to think twice. I can't help but feel like I am being discriminated against because I am balding pretty badly. I don't know if it is coincidence or what but every interview that I go to, it seems like all the other candidates except for me have their full heads of hair and are tall on top of it (I'm 5'8") so I feel a bit intimidated at times. It doesn't affect me in job interviews though as I have no problem sitting up straight and maintaining good eye contact and not fidgeting. My question is, we all know how much of an effect baldness can have on your dating life, but what about getting a good job because though employers won't come right out and say it, I'm sure they have an image in their mind of wanting a candidate to "look the part" in order to represent their company well. I can seel bald men having problems succeeding in jobs such as outside sales.

I think it has about the same effect as any other prominent physical deviation from 'the norm'.

Honestly, I think now a days its about who you know. I dont think looks are a hugeeeeeeeee deal. The company I work for, man-o-man, not many "good looking people" but almost everyone got their jobs because they knew someone. Network, get your name out there and make friends....you will find something.

The job market is so competitive nowadays that I don't think hairloss is a factor. There are plenty of baldies at my firm, of all ages, who are doing quite well for themselves. Myself included, unless I get fired tomorrow.

Balding has nothing to do with you not getting hired. You will get a job sooner or later. Keep trying and practice your people skills which will help you when getting a job.

It doesn't mean a damn thing to me, at least not in my field of aviation maintenance.

Just make sure that your self-esteem and self-worth are not balding and you'll find that job you're looking for:)

Without the caps, I'll have to agree that more often than not, especially at interviews when you're required to leave a picture along with your CV, people with a perfect look are chosen over people with glasses, overweight, male pattern baldness, large ears or missing teeth/nose/mouth :freaked: /whatnot etc. when the difference in competence is not too obvious.

I don't think so, I think some employers may see baldness as looking older which will make you look more mature and hardworking and will give the other employees a chance to buff up their bald jokes..

Hair loss and jobS - Getting a job? or Currently working?

Yes, it makes a difference. Massive.

I've experienced both sides.

End of story from my p.o.v.

Disagree. If you are cruising in there with half *** dressed, bad resume, and poor self esteem, then baldness is a scapegoat you can blame your lack of employment on.

I have found repeatedly that if you come in looking clean cut, in an impeccable suit, looking extremely polished, with a professional and beefed up resume, thorough research on the company, and an alpha male personality, you'll nail it every time. I've gotten every job I've ever applied for because I don't go in there wondering if I'm the best for the job and whether they'll hire me. I go in there knowing I'm the best.

Take that same attitude guys and you'll do stellar, hair or no.

I totally agree, people really shouldn't use their baldness as a scapegoat. i.e Gunner, sorry mate but you do seem to do it. Seems like you believe everything wrong in your life is down to your hairloss, its only because you allow it to be sorry but its true.

I agree that you cannot use baldness as a scapegoat BUT I think that on some unconscious level EVERYONE is more apt to consider better-looking persons in any situation. It's just like those tests that psychoanalysts ran on babies: babies stared longer at pictures of attractive people than those with deformities, asymmetrical facial features, etc.

All that aside, though: ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING. I am not talking about some false bravado either. I'm talking 'bout moxie, baby. You ain't got it, get it. Confidence, once harnessed, will make every part of your life better. The workplace, with women, in the gym, in competition, even with your friends. Learn to be a leader of the pack. People follow those that have their own situations handled. That don't second-guess themselves. It doesn't mean you have to be an arrogant prick. Just walk tall and believe in yourself.

Ok, enough of the pep talk. Get out there and make it happen!

You talk rubbish. End of story. Course it makes a difference.

If I didn't have hair loss, things would be 100% different. I'm certain of that.
